Very welcome development
What they can't do in SA, they take us for granted and continue making so much money that they take back home.
Never knew Startines was owned by NTA, let's promote our own.
HITV came and we all switched, guess he could manage his success, and went off.
Not only them, mobile networks also, data is becoming so expensive
StarTimes is never owned by NTA; it still remains a Chinese business. NTA is simply partnering with them.

NTA has 30% share, while the Chinese has 70% share and run by the chinese. To be honest apart from premier League is DSTV better than StarTimes?
Most of them really don't know anything. I am using startimes since 2013 and I can fairly say that they're one of the best in times of contents quality, affordable subscribtion and stable network.

Useless nigerian government with their own personal agenda.
Leave dstv alone .they are doing well and we like it like that.
Their content and packaging is good.

What is this one saying? You must be a homophobic south african or one of their girl friends. Dstv subs in SA is far cheaper than in nigeria and they do PAYG there. Even during de pandemic they gave them freebies over there, but here its increment. That was how mtn said per second billing is impossible until GLO screwed and exposed their lies and robbery. Robbers posing as investors. We wont stop until we screw multichoice totally.

LOL....you people should stop this lie that SA does pay as you go for DSTV. They don't. Packages system rules there supreme.

Here is the list of DSTV packages in South Africa. No PAYG.

As for cost.

Premium in SA is R819. That's 18,676.1 naira,In Nigeria, premium costs N16,020 (N2,500 less than South Africa)
Compact in SA is R399 or N9,100 . In Nigeria it is N6275.

South Africans pay more for DSTV compared to Nigerians. And NOTHING like pay per view.

Chai, the myths Nigerians believe. Pay per view ko, Pay per view ni! grin

Modified...If DSTV brought in pay as you go, you would end up paying far more money monthly for cable TV.

This is the link to the dstv south Africa site

The premium costs N28k (converted). So how is it cheaper? And nowhere in that site can I find that they do pay as you go.

If you like bring jstv, bntv, kvtv and other TV, you can't compete with dstv, they have the cash, the infrastructures and management.

Nigerians thinks because of our large population it means money.

Nigerians are poor, a small country like Monaco few in number but profitable for businesses.

I prefer a small market with money than a big market like Nigeria with no cash.

Nigeria pays the least for sub with DStv. And dstv has over 60% active subscriber base in south africa, with nigeria over 10%.
The profit margins shows nigeria with it's more population generates 100% less of revenue compared to RSA.
This our federal government is just looking for who to blame for their inefficiency, ask yourself if you pay DStv sub and have light 24hrs would you complain? It's a business not charity if you can't afford it or think it's too expensive go and use startimes and complain about picture quality.
How will I use my money and buy something then you come and force me to share the rights i bought with people who can't pay me.

Imagine DStv giving startimes and NTA rights to their epl and champions league matches.
Will you watch champions league or epl on startimes or NTA?

You are very correct. It's complete rubbish_ I tried them once and after the first month I cut the decoder's power cable and use it to extend my TV's power cable. I'm still looking for what component I can remove inside the decoder and use for something else.

Well, if we had a group of Nigerian investors who were willing to invest in a cable company that could compete with DSTV and startimes and offered good content, things might be diffeerent.

But Nigeria's money men and women are scared of television. It sucks money (to them). Only passionate folks like Dokpesi and Momoh are into tv...and even then...

Dstv subs in Nigeria are the lowest in Africa.

So the only reason, they put the law was because of startimes a govt company.

They want to collect things for free without paying.

Go check the contents of the packages! Then compare with what is obtainable in Nigeria!

Nigeria is being riped off!

I think Nigeria is the biggest Customer of Dstv . I stand to be corrected!

With the money that has been made in Nigeria, Dstv should do Nigerians better!

I was talking about this few weeks ago with an African friend..

I am a Tourist! So I know what I am saying!

900,000 new 90-day active subscribers, representing 5% growth year-on-year (YoY). This took the overall subscriber base to 19.5 million households, split between 8.4 million households in South Africa (SA) and 11.1 million households in the rest of Africa.*

Startimes is not owned by the FG. It is a Chinese business collaborating with the FG(NTA) to broadcast in Nigeria. They also have presence in other African countries. The problems with startimes are poor programme contents and terrible visual productions like NTA. Until these two are stepped up, multichoice will always dominate the market, except the government want to completely send multichoice out of Nigeria.

This is our government sha.Dont they know that exclusive right for english premier league is the koko.

Dstv has the money before any competitor would even think of going to the bank and borrow the billions couple with the vigorous stress in obtaining such huge loan. Deal is already sealed and done by dstv..have we forgotten so soon how HITV was killed and the loan from bank's palava. I don't believe this govt have what it takes to fight this battle, startime ko moon star ni.. they should collect their lobbying bribe and sleep on.why are they making us think they can do anything...shioooor.

We need the likes of dangote or any of the big men in Nigeria to close this monopoly ASAP.

Ha ha ha, watch Europe football? Millions of Nigerians living in Nigeria but wish they are living in Europe through watching Europe football.
Nigeria of the 1980s used to have stronger football clubs than most of Western Europe, until those in political power in Nigeria but against Western civilisation destroyed Nigeria's soccer.

What kind of lie is this? grin

Nigerians destroyed Nigerian football, that's why so many Nigerian players and players with Nigerian parents are playing for European countries and teams and not here.

The average Nigerian mind is dumb..

Dstv data is public

South Africa is dstv biggest market

All these nigerian saying govt this and that.

Govt can not reduce or increase price of good and services only the market can.

A govt like nigeria will make businesses run away from the country.

The masses are infact dumb, thinking govt will solve Tv issues for them

Infact if possible, they will want govt to reduce prices of under wares in the market.

I think it's high time folks who understand economics better stop saying anything so that when the government finally controls the industry, they will understand their foolishness.

@Topic: Honestly, I hope Multichoice doesn't pay for the viewing rights. The vast majority of Nigerians should know that you cannot afford a champagne lifestyle on a beer income.

Cable TV aka DSTV is not a public utility neither is it an essential commodity that requires price control. The government should end whatever "monopoly", let's see how the country with the highest number of poor people globally fork out half a billion dollars on an unessential commodity.

Nigeria's moneymen and women don't like television at all.

It can chop your money with limited returns.

Ibarahim Jimoh, the owner of Energy oil company tried his hand at a TV news channel. It worked...for some time...then that was that. Money too much.

Dangote won't like to set up a tv channel in my opinion, talkless of a Cable sattelite channel.

P.S DSTV is backed by a very large investment company called NASPERS. They have more cash than even Danogte.

Like seriously, how is breaking monopoly in other to facilitate more indigeneous paytv or pave way for other investors anti business.
As for the sub been lowest in africa, how many nigerians enjoy there sub, i.e imagine you sub n all you get a day is a 5hrs light .. this is where d issue of been over charged comes in.
In past & recent times, dstv as enjoy more preferential treatment than any other firm, excluding dangote ... if govt were to be more committed to startimes or indigenous firms .. dstv won't av sole right to air certains leagues, Hitv would av survived & Tstv would av been bursting our heads by now.
A country is not poor by virtue of economy she runs rather whats decides is balance of trade .. dstv income remits to south africa GNP, more subscribers on mtn & airtel respectively compared to glo .. asides crude oil what really boost our GNP, weytin we dey sell out.
Its not just the govt alone, we (consumers) have a role to play as well.
