Our government doesn't care about us. I think they derive joy seeing Nigerians suffer.

I THINK THERE ARE OTHER PORTS THAT NEEDED TO BE FUNCTIONAL IN NIGERIA,

ITS HIGH TIME THE FGN OPEN CALABAR PORTS, RIVERS STATE PORT. SO AS TO REDUCE PRESSURE ON THE LAGOS PORTS.

LAND PORT CAN BE BUILT IN IBADAN AND TRAIN CAN TAKE GOODS TO KANO OR KADUNA LAND PORTS THEREBY ALLOWING NORTHERN IMPORTERS TO CLEAR THERE GOODS.

THE FGN KNOWS HOW TO INFLICT HARDSHIP ON ITS CITIZENS AND THIS COUNTRY SEEMS THE WORST PLACE TO DO BUSINESS.

ITS HIGH TIME THEY OPEN OTHER PORTS IN THE COUNTRY.

Yes it true. But I also believe there are sinister plans somewhere.

C'mon what happened to using the total lockdown period for 3mb repairs?

Probably.
Re: Weighing The Socio-Economic Burden Of Maintaining Third Mainland Bridge by sucre2(m): 8:28am On Jul 29, 2020
This current administration is a joke, do they just wake up one day and ksts shutdown this road for repairs? The whole clubrey was on lockdown for 90 days, could the repairs not have been done during that period where nobody would be affected and they decided to shut down the bridge when people are just getting back to their normal lives.
Re: Weighing The Socio-Economic Burden Of Maintaining Third Mainland Bridge by redsun(m): 8:29am On Jul 29, 2020
The maintenance of roads and bridges is continuous, right from the day they are commissioned. And it should be carried out at night by the highway agency. They don't need to shut down a bridge to maintain it unless it has serious structural damage.

If the bridge needs maintenance then it should be maintained... because the alternative will lead to catastrophic failure and lost of lives which is far worse.

When I saw that in the article, I skimmed through the rest.

The number is wrong. There are more cars using that bridge daily. Way more than that.
Imagine cars parked side by side on four lanes for 3-4km. You'd need more than 100k cars to achieve that. And that's during peak time. Off-peak time figures of and evening peak time again.

According to a traffic report on Third Mainland Bridge in 2002, the number of vehicles in both directions recorded in 12 hours was 180,902 vehicles, which may have doubled or tripled after 16 years. https://autojosh.com/third-mainland-bridge/

Haa, they need to decongest Lagos.
The population should go to port harcourt or Akwaibom or Calabar.

Why not weigh the Economic Benefits?

Fashola a Lagos man as a Minister of Works smartly deployed Federal resources to fully overhaul and repair 3rd Mainland bridge before 2023 this people are still complaining

What makes anyone so certain if we miss this opportunity through Fashola , a Fulani or Ibo next Minister of works would give a fvck about the bridge

.

Your points are very valid. Sadly majority of Nigerians hardly think and just keep wailing on a daily basis

All these BULSHIT only happens in a bastardized nation. They want to kill themselves in Lagos even when a sensible country would have opened up other ports while placing some sort of embargo on Lagos ports to discourage people from using it in favour of others like Calabar, Warri, P.H etc.

Nigeria is so useless, damn it!!
Re: Weighing The Socio-Economic Burden Of Maintaining Third Mainland Bridge by Originalsly: 9:34am On Jul 29, 2020
Hmmm...... must the bridge be completely closed to effect repairs/maintenance? Even if yes.... it should be common sense that all alternative routes be established and allow smooth of traffic.
Re: Weighing The Socio-Economic Burden Of Maintaining Third Mainland Bridge by sulaak(m): 10:39am On Jul 29, 2020
Simple solutions

Sell all federal government assets in Lagos state to investors that can maintain and monetise the bridge, use the funds from the sell to build new infrastructures in less developed regions in Nigeria.

The 1004 Estate, Federal Secretariat, National Stadium, Carter, Eko and Third Mainland bridge should generate at least $3 to $7 Billions in returns to the exchequer and contribute to the development of the Calabar to Maiduguri Railway programme.

This period is the best opportunity, as some businesses are still on lockdown.

Some people just criticize without thinking. The maintenance has to be done at some point, you know? Social economic effects my foot. What about the possible effects of a collapse of the bridge?
