Jang not to blame for Jos crises’ Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font Yusufu Aminu Idegu, Jos 10/02/2011 00:00:00 WOMEN from the 17 local governments of Plateau State have said Governor Jonah Jang should not be blamed for the persistent sectarian crises in the state. President of the Muslim Women Association Hajiya Sa’adatu Awatai spoke yesterday in Jos. Hajiya Awatai said "it is wrong to allege that the crises in the state is caused by the state government." Some Muslim women in the state had accused Jang of religious bias in handling the crises. Hajiya Awatai said: "The issue of violent crises in the state should not be trivialised into a blame game. It is irresponsible and ignorant for any group to insinuate that the government is orchestrating the crises. "This is a governor that have spent over N3 billion on promoting Islam through Hajj and related programmes from 2007 to 2010." In a statement, they condemned those calling for imposition of emergency rule on the state and said such a call is a setback to democracy. It said: "We praise the Federal Government for establishing the Special Task Force (STF) and plead with our brothers and sisters to allow it review activities of the STF towards restoring peace in the state.’’ |
