Dangerous, Mali as a country is on path of destruction with this development. Nations are not built this way. Overthrowing Sagari's govt was still a major mistake in our history.

All the coups in the past....the way they are rejoicing in Mali is the way we were rejoicing in Nigeria when we had coups that threw out the corrupt polticians.

And at the end of the day? It always ended in tears.

Millitary rule is evil. As an example. Buhari, in 1983, overthrew Shagari's regime which was corrupt. He jailed a lot of corrupt polticans. But...and this is where things get nasty...he also jailed innocent people without due process.

Buhari, as a civilian leader now, could not even put Saraki in jail when Saraki was doing shakara for him. He had to wait for the next election.

Even Buhari's prosecution of Magu...if it was Buhari millitary, na to jail Magu for 200 years, and even pass a decree that backs it up..without need for legislative approval. Magu had access to his lawyers self.

And all this agitation for Biafra and Niger Delta....under millitary rule, they won't even see the light of day.

The citizens have gotten to the point of no return. No peace path will work there now. This is what I mean when I said Nigerian military are weak, corrupt and useless, not helping matters in Nigeria.

It's not a coincidence that our military turned out this way. The decadence in the military started from OBJ era when he voluntarily retired the top warlords in the army just to save his head from any planned coup. Then subsequent leaders borrowed the script and that automatically became the norm. Today we have a military that has been infiltrated by politicians and the corrupt practices have become a trademark of our polity.

The army is supposed to be the last hope of resort when things go south in any country but that same army has been relegated to its lowest ebb here. Naija case no be here ooo...na only God fit redeem this country

To the people thinking this is a good thing because the people are cheering, go look up the fall of gadaffi. Or Siad Barres military coup of 1969. People were really happy when those happened too and were cheering. Look at Libya or Somalia now.

When will Africans learn that military coups are not a good thing, that military dictatorships are usually corrupt, authoritarian, answer to no one and with Mali already dealing with things like Isis, this is not a good thing.

I don’t think so; there is a reason why Buhari is keeping to old idiiots as his service chiefs despite their obvious incompetence. He lets them steal as much as rhey like and do whatever they please, to keep them happy and thoughts about coup away from their minds.

If only the lower ranking soldiers who have been denied promotions as a result of this and have lost fellow soldiers, family and friends to Boko Haram and Herdsmen can be bold enough to carry out a mutiny and a coup.

We have seen this script in many countries including Nigeria over and over. Soon, the same people will troop to the streets against the military after many years of oppression.

it was a coup, because they were British people and British soldiers in a British colony on a Red Indians soil that they would later takeover and turn to America. If it was the Red Indians that revolted that's when you will call it War of Independence. But the people that formed America were ex-British people, so it was a coup against the British government and its oppressive monarchy that sent them there and put them there as a British colony. And the only reason America soldiers won't overthrow their Government is because they don't need to, because their govt is bound by law to follow the Constitution with checks and balances to remove any bad leader from government. And let me remind you of this:

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

That is the Constitution of the United States of America, written by the founding fathers, because they understood what is meant for people to be oppressed by their own government, because they were victims of the oppression of their own British government. So in America, "Coup" is a civil right when the Government is oppressive. Why do you think Americans riot at every case of oppression. Look at what happened just because one man George Floyd was oppressed to death. Serious riots all over America that shook the country. Now imagine what will happen if the government tried to oppress millions of Americans, the way the useless govt does here, there will be coup against that government. Either constitutional coup, military or armed civilian militias. America doesn't joke with freedom.

"DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE" the most powerful government document in America reads:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness."

Let any Government do anyhow in America, there will be coup, even their Constitution commands it!

those rebellious and mutinous soldiers should respect the constitution of Mali and return back to their barracks and give way for elections that will bring in a democratically elected government.

There is nothing worng with democracy., Infact, at the risk of being called a white man slave, I'll say that democracy is better than other forms of government.

Under an autocracy, everything, including creativity is stifled. As a result development is stifled (that's why many communist regimes collapsed...because when you run an autocracy)

All the working democracies in the world today...the UK, US, etc...were once as corrupt as Nigeria. The reason why they work now is because people there realise that democracy does not end with casting vote. You act as a strong check and balance to your leaders.You fight for your rights using every available means. Most Nigerians just sit down and do nothing after voting day.

Civil rights for black people in the US was not won by MLK delivering a beautiful specch one fine day. It was won by hundrends of footsoldiers who did the hard work of organisng people to achieve a goal.

Here in Nigeria, we just vote and go home. We don't even ask questions, and we expect everything to be ok.

Democracy is hard work. High time we got to do the hard work. Because we have tried autocracy in Africa, and everytime it ended in tears.

How many times have we overthrown corrupt polticans, and hoped that the new army ruler would be the next Thomas Sankara...only to turn out to be another Mobutu. The truth is, we don't need a super revolutionary leader, we need to work within the system and change it from within. And it takes time.


You're right wish I can give you a thousand like democracy is hardwork we have to keep struggling going till we get it right

so how do u Chase out a Democratically elected regime that is repressive and refuse to popular demand of step down? pls ans that...am not in supporting of coup too,,but am saying that, I welcome the idea of army chasing out leaders that refuse to leave the stage after they have failed there by making the entire country to ask them to go....event the plotters had promise election and a snappy one for that matter.....
