Following the recent civil disturbances and subsequent breakdown of law and order in Emene, Enugu State, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has summoned an emergency State Security Council meeting.

The meeting, according to a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, will hold on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at the Executive Council Chambers, Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, and scheduled for 2pm.

The statement added that "all security agencies in the state are expected to brief His Excellency, the Governor, fully, on the immediate and remote causes of the clashes, as well as advance measures to avert such occurrences in the future.”

It would be recalled that there was a clash in Emene, on Sunday, which prompted Gov. Ugwuanyi to visit the scene, where he was assured that normalcy has returned.

This is one killing too many and tension is so high in the land now.

Except the killer police men are arrested, paraded, prosecuted and jailed, things might spill over into something serious.

We are not taking just ordinary meeting and assurance that the police will behave themselves.

Every commissioner of Police especially from the northern part of Nigeria posted to Enugu understands the docility of the residents and exploits that.
It wouldn’t be happening if the governors were not apathetic or insouciant. Invasion of Enugu by Fulani mercenaries comes to mind. Nothing has happened since that attack. No public statement on the fate of the criminals and murderers. Enugu citizens are expected to move on and not talk about it.

Young men were engaged in physical exercises at Emene Enugu last Sunday but the DSS, Nigeria police, Airforce and soldiers from the 82 Div. Nigeria army saw such exercises as threat the Nigeria security. The commissioner of Police Enugu state reiterated such concerns when he queried and forced the five young men arrested to accept that they acquiring martial arts skills so they’d be able to fight Nigeria!!...He kept asking them why they were learning Kung fu. People, isn’t this ridiculous? He even forced some of them to accept that they had ‘odeshi’...an excuse to practice his shooting skills on a fellow human being. How unprofessional can the Nigeria police be??

As much as I despise Nnamdi Kanu’s rhetorics and method, I’d have to concede that IPOB members are being bullied, intimidated unnecessarily and being pushed to the wall.

All over Enugu, people come out in open spaces to exercise, you’d see hundreds or even thousands of people coming out from various places to train and exercise at Achara layout, new haven primary school new haven, Ngwo Park Uwani, Emene and Okpara sq. independence layout not far from Ugwuanyi’s residence. People run, roller stake, stretch while others practice judo and other martial arts. Why would police and military try to intimidate and slap people doing these...because they were armed and feared?

What happened at Emene should not just be condemned by reasonable people, police and the military should be held responsible for the atrocities that they commit in South East states where they feel relaxed to torment, arrest, extort, intimidate and murder people without repercussions.

The atrocities that they commit in Enugu and other south east states wouldn’t happen in any part of Nigeria. This shouldn’t go unpunished.

this is the truth, remember how they quickly released a statement that ipob killed 2 of their men and kidnapped one. Only for it to turn out to be a lie.

To me ipob has been peaceful enough all these years this incessant killing of them needs to stop.

Nigerian government has no respect for southern youths at all. Alot of things that southern youths get killed for in the north they can't even arrest them for it.

I have seen a situation where EFCC operatives was engaging in illegal stop and search and extorting passerby the moment a man was passing that they discovered he was hausa they apologized to him. This happened in Lagos.

Is this supposed to be so?

You see, some of our people want to sound politically correct.
And the easiest way to achieve that is to demonize Nnamdi Kanu, a man whose only crime is seeking to establish a just and free society for his people, and to liberate every other oppressed people in Nigeria.
It is a sign of intellectual weakness for anybody to continue to hack on Kanu's methods.
There is nothing absolutely wrong with his methods.

He want Ojukwu method.

The problem of most them is they think, hating and attacking Kanu and Ipob will make other Nigerians love them.

Not knowing that the way those enemies of Kanu sees Kanu is the same way they see them.
Did Uwazurike insult anyone yet they hated him and killed his members which the suppose fellow nigerians celebrated.

Ugwuanyi is doing the wrong thing. Summoning the security forces will only lead to him hearing a concocted one sided story. He should immediately constitute a high powered independent commission that will investigate what happened.

People in Enugu are not happy over the killings in Emene, they now see those killings as something with ethnic undertone. Many people now believe that a certain section of the country now dominate the security forces and are using the cover of their uniforms to kill Igbos in their own land

It’s my personal opinion sir and I’m not speaking for any other person. First time I watched Nnamdi Kanu was a video of him asking Igbos resident in the US to support him with finances to acquire weapon. If you don’t see nothing wrong with that, that’s you. We can’t all think and reason same way. This is a faceless forum but there are lots of people who would be shocked that he did that. Personally, I have come across very despicable individuals whom you wouldn’t want to associate or even shake their hands and I mean people who would do unimaginable things but you wouldn’t see such people coming on videos doing such. Fulani militants who camouflage as herders wouldn’t do such..showing their faces in camera asking for weapons, boyz at Esut and UNEC wouldn’t do it. You’ll only hear about them when the deed is done...that’s one of the reasons people laugh at IPOB and Kanu. Here on Nairaland, lots of people believe Kanu and IPOB are just ‘wailers’. They see Biafra as an online republic, they celebrate it when Igbos are killed.

Kanu shouldn’t be calling people names, stoking ethnic tensions and insulting people who disagree with him...Nairalanders call Igbos ‘pigs’ or pigsterners...Kanu started that. He has lots of fans but he should learn to listen and take advice.
Those who criticise him today might turn out to be his fanatical supporters tomorrow and I see that happening.

It’s one death too many...Igbos should wake up. There are lots of distractions. Governors, Ekweremadu and co not uniting and speaking with one voice like South west governors and politicians are doing especially about security. Amotekun is a brilliant idea. They stuck to it and wouldn’t be intimidated...Ugwuanyi and co are still flirting with Abuja and the Inspector General of police and being confused with silly awards being given to them.
We all don’t like the activities of herdsmen but apart from the insults from Kanu, he and IPOB have offered and come up with solutions.

At UNTH Ituku Ozalla, Fulanis have taken over the forests, they are all over there, it took the intervention of top staff at the hospital to reduce the crimes and menace that they constitute there. In the right hands and right method, these wouldn’t be happening, it’ll take some sacrifices but it’ll stop.

Lots of people want to contribute but not with what is happening and they way things are being done.

There’s a cartoon of an IPOB/Biafra soldier pointing his weapon backwards and that’s how people see Biafrans/IPOB. That is actually very good because if things are done correctly, the likes of that police commissioner and his friends would down on their knees on video begging for forgiveness.

The point I'm making is still flying over your head sir, you don't get it..
I'm telling you that no matter the style used, the opposition/taunt/mockery will still come from the usual angles.. , the cartoons will still be here cos the taunts and insults and murders were here before kanu. Infact they were part of the reason that led to his emergence. Don't know you, so it's nothing personal. Don't even know if you are igbo or not. Just stating the obvious. Ten thousand kids were dying per day in Biafra, it didn't stop them from killing you and taunting you and shooting down red Cross planes with the help of foreign imperialists. Folks want you to remake yourself because what they loath is your guts/culture. Are you ready to do so? If you think that massaging their egos with romantic names will change things, then you need to read more about igbo history.. There are lots of ideological conflicts enmeshed in some of these confrontations that you guys dismiss as simple tribal skirmishes..The igbo man should vigorously fight for his space, because with the way things are going the alternative is to be enslaved in his ancestral lands..

Continue speaking English one day you will wake up to reality. The realities are already there just that your pretending to be half awake and we know how hard it it to wake someone half awake.
