Why are they in a hurry to commission it if it's not yet completed? Of what use is an international airport whose "international wing" is still under construction?

Don't mind the lie, its not the international wing. Its both the international and local wing. The new international terminal GEJ almost completed with the Chinese is still abandon till today.

No idea. Though It’s not wrong to commission projects in piece meal, but they could have been clearer in their communication that this is only one of several projects at the airport complex. The runway is the most important one as without it airplanes can’t land, I guess that’s why they went ahead. We should also acknowledge that in Nigeria projects are seldom ever used before they are commissioned.
this is just long talk. Summary is buhari commissioned incomplete airport to ndigbo for use cause I read very well where hadi sirika the minister said yesterday that flights can land. I just smell abandoned project jare

There is a lot of mistrust with this government so your perspective is completely understandable.

The fact that a post like this made front page is amusing. The only problem that the airport had that made them to shut it down was the runway. Any other thing is aesthetics. And the minster still said yesterday that the work continues to upgrade toilet facilities and the cargo section.

Go back one year and dig all the news about this project the main problem was the runway and not the terminal building. Terminal buildings although essential are not where the planes land and take off. That was why port Harcourt international airport was able to operate for many years from a canopy but flights were coming and going.

Renovation of a terminal building does not stop the main business which is flight landing and taking off. Nairaland moderators, you guys can do better. Make una no dey shame us with this kind of sensational news that does not make sense.

Stupid people like you makes Nigeria worse day by day. If you don’t know your rights, what you deserve as a citizen there is no helping you.

You didn't have to be insulting but let me make somethings clear to you, that airport will get more attention if its functional than if it becomes Moribond, So you think what, if we waited for the airport to be perfect first we won't even have an international airport by now...so please we are happy the way it is, I live in Enugu, where do you live, stop wailing and smell the coffee, if Biafra with an Airstrip worked during the war, why won't an Enugu airport with upgraded runway work...You people should let us celebrate our little gain,

narrative has changed cheesy why did hadi sirika minister for aviation say domestic flights can land and international flights will proceed from 5th September whereas the international terminal still has iron pipes and undergoing renovation grin

Ethiopian airlines only needs a good runway to land in Enugu. They don't need a fancy international terminal building. We should clamour for more international flights to Enugu instead of bickering over a project that is still in progress. Igbo si azota ana, azoba ute. The building is in progress. Simply clamour for work to be completed.

ana azota ana, ebe ana di amara mma? Well I get your point. But it's just an eyesore. At least people can fly from enugu now regardless of the aesthetic condition of the airport.

I don't know why people may chose not to appreciate, the major focus of the work was on the runway, but you keep displaying picture of the building area, are you an aviation expert, does the interiors decide safe landing, we love it like that, what about when we used to fly it the way it used to be, the most important thing is that there is improvements and that safety standards are observed
The problem is that if the terminal is still undergoing renovation, the airport cannot operate.
How can passengers check into a terminal while construction work is ongoing; what about the airport workers.
Why commission something that can't be used?
The repaved runway is just a part of the renovation work.

IamWonderful:
Igbo leaders and their penchant for frivolity, igbos see those are that are responsible for your problem are your leaders, they gather to celebrate mediocrity.
Ironically, they are mainly PDP. Igboland is the backbone of PDP in Nigeria yet they are too weak and unprincipled to provide vibrant opposition in Nigeria. They are so spineless to defend the interest of their people and insist on good governance where and when it is easy (at their backyard).

All Igbo leaders regrouped to celebrate mediocrity and commission and uncompleted project by a federal government that is headed by an opposition party. Who does that?

Nowonder these people are not taken seriously. They are the easiest sellouts in the south.
The middle beltans are much more vibrant than these clowns.

This is no more about Ndi Igbo or whatever. It is about corruption and the Nigerian system. So dysfunctional and the politicians will be using divide and rule on the people.

Don't they travel abroad and see how local airports and train stations looks like.

See the nature of the environment and the poor quality work going on there. By next year, even if the managed to complete it, the aluminium cladding will start falling off like the one PH.

For those of you bleating on the front page, Abuja airport is still under construction till today, while I am not happy with the rushed commissioning, it is not totally out of place.
At least flight activities can resume while other works are concluded.
I’m sure the governor and other South Eastern leaders will not rest until the work is completed

Have you been to the said Enugu Airport, Do you think this is a new airport or an airport that had been in operation, what is special about checking and out an airport, is it not similar situation with buying your bus or train ticket and entering the bus, the most important thing is the part where the plane lands, don't worry in worse case scenario people can check in even while in the plane, most tickets and processing are even done online or within the particular airlines unit, that's the airlines business, like Ethiopian airline, their office is also in Polo park shopping mall Enugu so now you see you can just walk into the entrance once your checking is done, you can go and sit in your seat

Them package uncompleted project and commissioned it. That the international wing is still under construction whereas it has been commissioned tells you this will become an abandoned project.

Shame

Lalasticla.la please the other commissioning topic you released didn't have new pictures of the airport like this one. Front page so that Nigerians will know more.
Man just tire for this country matter.
