Nigeria Sitting On A Time Bomb, Oodua Peoples Care Initiatives (OPCI) Warns by Gjrich(m): 5:09pm On Oct 04, 2020
Otunba (Dr ) Maroof Olanrewaju, the National President of the organization.
A Socio-cultural group – Oodua Peoples Care Initiatives (OPCI), has warned that the country is sitting on a time bomb that may explode any time.

The National President of the organization, Otunba (Dr ) Maroof Olanrewaju, gave the warning while fielding questions from the newsmen by the sideline during the triple celebration of ifa festival, his birthday and general meeting in Ilorin at the weekend.

He said: “Failure of the Federal Government to restructure the country has given birth to unemployment, vices like yahoo yahoo, insecurity and current nationhood agitation.

He added that the current agitation by Yoruba in Kwara and Kogi to be merged with their kith and kin in the South Western Nigeria would have not arisen had the Federal Government heeded the call of his organization and the people demanding for restructuring and consequent boundary adjustment.

He further said his organization called for restructuring to stem Boko Haram terrorist agitation but the government did not listen. Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) agitation as well as Odua Republic agitation has joined which could have been averted.

Lamenting on the security situation in Nigeria, he said, ” security has collapsed. With a population of about 200million and since about 2009 to date, how much has Nigeria spent on security? What are will experiencing till today? All the security personnel – police, army, DSS, customs and immigration but it has not been solved, why? The foundation of Nigeria has already cracked

“We are facing tribalism challenge. If it is a Yoruba man that is the Chief of Army Staff like Gen. Abdulrahman Buratai, he would have been fired. All the heads of the security paraphernalia are Hausa- Fulani. It is already a family affair. Therefore, it will be difficult to get any result. The bandits and herdsmen are mostly Fulani too.

” Not every leader would be like former President Olusegun Obasanjo who attacked and dealt with Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) when he was in power. Many OPC members were ruthlessly dealt with and killed most especially in Lagos.

“Today, terrorists would be arrested, set free as repentant and they would go back to Sambisa to operate.

When President Muhammadu Buhari was coming in 2015, he promised to bring an end to banditry and and terrorism in Northern Nigeria within a very short time. We thought that his military experience would stand him better than former President Goodluck Jonathan and voted for him. But alas, what is the situation like today? Every street now engages security services and even the Yoruba States has teamed up together to start ” Amotekun” which Miyeti Allah cattle breeders kicked against, saying it is targeted at them. Has the arrest of herdsmen with Ak 47 riffles made in Shaki area last week not proved Amotekun right?”.

On celebration of Nigeria at 60, OPCI president described it as “celebration of corruption and insecurity with lots of lives and properties destroyed.
He said Nigeria is 60 but behaving as if it is not yet 40 years. That was not how Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Chief Obafemi Awolowo did when they were at the helms of the affairs..

Bemoaning the dilapidated condition of Nigeria road infrastructures, he said, “Nigerian leaders are killing Nigerians because while the leaders are shuttling around with helicopters the ordinary man are dying through accidents occurring daily on our roads. The armed robbers, bandits and kidnappers don’t need to block roads any longer as the roads are even not motorable.

“All the neighbouring countries like Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon which are not naturally endowed like Nigeria have better roads than Nigeria.
