The Inspector General of Police, IG Muhammad Adamu has, through the Force Spokesman, DCP Frank Mba, announced the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) tactical unit of the police this afternoon.

But then, some things in the Memo released call for concerns. They said the SARS officers will be redeployed to other units of the police. That's good, after all they were first police officers before being attached to SARS unit. Now, these same men will be given arms when taken to other units. The truth is that the inclination they have towards humiliating people won't changed. They are still the individual brutal people they have always been.

Why can't they redeploy them to some units where they won't have much direct dealing with people. For example, they should be redeployed to Banks as security guards, Aides for VIP's, officers in the advance teams of governors etc. There, they won't be working like the conventional police men.

Secondly, they said another tactical unit will be formed soon. Fine, we need extra-trained police officers to help us curb the menace of armed robbery. But setting up another anti-robbery squad with another name is just too political. We craved for #EndSARS and not #RecycleSARS or #RenameSARS because this is like just renaming SARS. What happened to extending the mandate of the hitherto tactical unit such as Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team to include armed robbery curbing.

And lastly, the recruitment process. We need sane, emotional and mentally mature people in the new or extended tactical unit. We don't need people that explaining oneself in their presence is attract capital punishment.

If otherwise, it's double problem for Nigerians. The officers in the new unit will be humiliating people, and the officers of the defunct SARS will still be humiliating people in their new post.

Things will never be the same again for the police.
They have now seen that the masses have ultimate power over them.
The masses have also realized it that have the power to fight evil.
Even the politicians have seen the power of the masses.

Gradually, change is coming. Not the APC and PDP kind of change.

If only we can use the momentum we used for this #EndSARS campaign to protest against bad leadership, Nigeria will be a better country.
