large gap exist between law enforcement agencies and the people. Their lifestyle differ from ours.only a fellow officer understand what their colleague passes through. most of their friends are fellow officers. A strong bond exist among themselves while a weak bond exist towards non police officers. They trust themselves so highly that they will never turn their colleague for an offense against non officers

Their manner of profiling criminals makes an average young man a suspect. Whoever is suspected is harrased. The lack of respect for human right has led to the loss of trust from the youth. The experience or withness of violence whenever any youth encounters the men with red cap causes a long term distrust.


The youth do not want a change of name but a change in attitude. The confidence the youth have in the uniform men to has gone so low that it would take a consistent extra ordinary effort from them to win it back. The youth want the police to publicize the policies and procedures the police use. The youth want to know when an officer is free to use force. We want to know how to act so they do not have to legally apply force on us . We want a police force that is constantly trained in ethics and integrity. Detering officers should be punnished for violating this rules. punnished officers should have their names published .The youth want a police force that sees themselves as equal to others. We want a police force that talk to us calmly and politely. Shouts and insult raises anger . During monthly environmental sanitation excercise, police should not only punnish offenders. Rather men on uniform should join and pack the dirt . They should engage in other non enforcement activities with the community. This creates a sence of togetherness and not one of superiority. Gradually,the people would see the officer of the law as partners and not devil to be feared. This will ensure maximum coorpeation.

Sometimes i think about Nigeria and i burst into tears. We pay police with our own sweat via taxes and these same men resort to killing and extorting us in the name of "hustle". They extort a hard working driver of 200 naira then transport fair increases more and we think its fuel hike not knowing its these thieves. Now they are now playing the victim, who do Nigeria like this? Police brutality is a function of poor education from both policemen and citizens. Many policemen are not properly educated. They can't engage in a decent arguement without resorting to threats. Many can't even read and write especially their rank and file. Many citizens are also not enlightened to know their rights and duties. Since the government has chosen for 60 years to ignore education, the chicken have come home to roost. In some countries, their prisons are virtually empty. Thanks to responsible government they have.

But they have also killed/jailed/Extort thousands of innocent people who never got fair hearing.

I guess that boosts their morale

As much as it is a wrong sign in law and order to kill law enforcement, it is good the police understands that there is a repercussion for killing, robbing and brutalizing with impunity. All the people need is a breakdown in law and order and intense assault on the police with weapons available and they will feel what it feels like to be at the receiving end. Not supporting attacks on police but the force really needs to start dealing with its defaulters and reorganize its recruitment system. Some policemen do not deserve to be in uniform.

Bro, thank u very much. Thank u very much. This is what I keep saying. U see, many people are not really intelligent in Nigeria. This point u raised is one thing I have been saying.

The police deal with many people on daily bases due to nature of their jobs. The pry and secondary school educations in Nigeria are so poor. As a result, we recruit many poorly educated people into police and majority of the citizens the police deal with are illiterates and semi illiterates who actually don't know how to respond and interact with police men.
I kept saying it during the protest that we must begin to work on our pry and secondary school systems. I have seen naija systems, some poorly interact with police men and I have seen naija police men poorly interract with citizens. All these are as a result of the half baked education we have.

And finally, crime rate is too high in Nigeria. In fact, almost 4 out of every 15 Nigerian is into crime. This is too much. Most times, the police get to deal with a lot of crimes and we don't even have enough police men in the country.

Many police stations are ill equipped. To reduce crime, we need our govt to work. Crime rate in Nigeria is way too much. It is too much. With rate of crime and poor data base of Nigerians, the police has nothing to work with.

Even our house addresses are so bad. It is not easy to track people or identify people in Nigeria, so police gets to wrk most times using analogue system. This is bad. Nigeria does not even know exactly how many we are.

The problems are too much which is directly not even the fault of the police but the govt. Like I always say, we always find ways to exclude our politicians from the real problems we have. They are so lucky sincerely. Nigerians have a way of making politicians look good.

We need to fix our pry and secondary school ASAP. We need to properly start data base of Nigerians and we need to reduce crime. Communitiew should stop supporting crimes. Families should stop supporting crimes.

Both parties would all feel the pains. Nobody has the monopoly of violence, if you can do anyhow then be ready to see anyhow too.
