The Nigerian Army says it will not disclose the identities of its men who were sent to Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020.

Soldiers had dispersed #EndSARS protesters who prevented vehicular movement along that axis for two weeks.

The incident had triggered different reactions, within and outside the country, as the military and the federal government were accused of human rights abuse.

While there are reports that many persons were killed by soldiers, only one case has been confirmed so far.

In an interview with PUNCH, Osoba Olaniyi, spokesman of the 81 division of the Nigerian Army, said it is unprofessional for the army to name the soldiers who were in action on that day.

“It is against operational security. We don’t give that. It is against the policy of operational security. There is no problem here. The picture some people paint, as if we are fighting with the state government, is wrong,” the newspaper quoted him to have said.

The army had initially denied being responsible for the incident.

In separate tweets, the army had labelled the reports on soldiers opening fire at the tollgate as fake news.

But last week, Olaniyi confirmed that soldiers were the ones who carried out the operation.

He had said the Lagos state government invited the army to restore order after widespread violence.

“At no time did soldiers of the Nigerian Army open fire on any civilian. From the onset of the ENDSARS protest, there was no time personnel of 81 Division Nigerian Army Lagos were involved,” he had said in a statement.

“However, the decision to call in the military was taken by the Lagos State Government (LASG) after a 24- hour curfew was imposed.

“This was as a result of the violence which led to several police stations being burnt, policemen killed, suspects in police custody released and weapons carted away. The situation was fast degenerating into anarchy. It was at this point that LASG requested for the military to intervene in order to restore normalcy.

“The intervention of the military followed all laid down procedures for Internal Security operations and all the soldiers involved acted within the confines of the Rules of Engagement (ROE) for Internal Security operations.”

As long as Bulhary remains the C-in-C, nothing good will ever come out of that useless army.

They will only keep churning out soldiers that can only kill civilians but runs away when confronted by ragtag boko haram

Meaning the army is above the constitution of the land which they pledged to obey? However, those soldier would have long been fished out if they had participated in a military coup.

Army commit atrocities and no one is held responsible? Thought they lied shamelessly that no soldier was @ the Lekki Tollplaza initially. The truth will surely self expose.

This is how they lied about the Zaki Biam/Odi killings, Shites massacre, Capt.Wadume/Taraba notorious terrorist kingpin case & now this among many.Even service chief answers to civil authority in sane climes but not in a nation like this.Too bad!

I guess the recent US Navy Seal rescue operation on our soil should sober these people & help them understand what true soldiering is all about but nay! Nigerian army of lies.

Here comes one of the few OBJECTIVE POST ON THIS THREAD

Even if it was just one (1) youth that was killed
It is a very BIG issue for some of us with brains and souls,
If it was 7 youths as it was reported by the genuine protesters at Lekki, it is still so sad,
and if it was 78 or 100 youths as it was circulated all over social media,
We deserve to know the whole truth as a nation.
So we can know how to table our matter to the international community.
We want to know what is true and what are lies.
We dont want to accept any lies from the Army and at the same time, We don't need some people (celebrities et al) fueling fake news on this heated country now.
We are not fighting against Nigeria,
We are fighting for Nigeria.
#IStandWithTheTruth
Some Nigerians are waiting for what is the truth.
#IStandWithAPeacefulProtest.
#AGoodCountryIsAllNigerianYouthsWant
Again,
We are not fighting against Nigeria,
We are fighting for Nigeria.

Conscience is an open wound. Only the truth can heal it.

The Good people of Nigeria deserve to know the WHOLE TRUTH of this Lekki issue now.
Heads must roll!

Up till now, many Good Nigerian citizens with an open mind don't know what to believe.........still!

Dchampion65:
God bless you really good

God bless you real real good too!
You are a Champion indeed! wink

While there are reports that many persons were killed by soldiers, only one case has been confirmed so far.
We deserve to know the true situation of things that have already set Nigeria 10 years backwards.

And every and any person found guilty of killings of innocent souls (that resulted in loss of lives and properties, especially private businesses)

OR,

Any body found guilty of spreading fake news
(that resulted in loss of lives and properties, especially private businesses)

Whichever way it is, they must be brought to book.
This can and will never be swept under the carpet.

The Good people of Nigeria deserve to know the WHOLE TRUTH of this Lekki issue now.
Heads must roll!

Up till now, many Good Nigerian citizens with an open mind don't know what to believe.........still!

whizzler:
The second part of Ur assertion is as important as the first part because everyone must be held responsible for their actions
Exactly my objective points.

diaspoAFRICANS:

10 years or you meant 100 Yrs backwards?
More like that....
It's a sorry case.

Everything about this government is a scam! They think people don’t know. Scam president! Scam governors! Yet they’re chasing young people and showcasing grinding machines that they looted. Because we can’t showcase the billions the politicians are looting.

They will remain UNKNOWN SOLDIERS. Even the soldiers that pulled the hit on Kalakuta Republica which resulted in the death of Fela's mother, they still remain Unknown soldiers despite all the government enquiries. Government magic at work.
