Senator Shehu Sani on Friday night made a remark in response to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum who claimed the Boko Haram crisis started through protests.

Zulum had told reporters earlier on Friday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that #EndSARS protesters should be careful in order not to allow those with ulterior motive hijack the protest, Igbere TV reports.

“On the issue of #EndSARS, I am calling on all Nigerians especially the youths to be very careful. The whole Boko Haram saga started as a result of the protest by some youths in Maiduguri against the use of helmet by motorcycle riders, you have seen the situation now,” he said.

Sani who formerly represented Kaduna South Senatorial District tweeted: “No Professor, BH (Boko Haram) insurgency didn’t start from protest; it started from extra judicial killing.”

Youth protesting against police brutality had demonstrated in different parts of the country for two weeks before security agents clamped down on them.

Shortly after the protesters were dispersed, suspected hoodlums attacked private and government-owned property across the country.

Boko Haram started as a result of bad governance, the same problem we are dealing with today.

Records show that Mohammed Yusuf, the founder of Boko Haram, was one of the most influential orators of the north.

He condemned Western education in the strongest possible terms, noting that the northern leaders were only enriching themselves and maintaining vicious cycle of abject poverty.

The sect leader encouraged jobless young graduates to tear their university degrees and join the sect, and they did.

If Nigerian leaders were truly committed to good governance, nobody would have the time to listen to Mohammed Yusuf because those unemployed graduates would be too busy in their offices working.

However, most of the followers were jobless, despondent and poor people.

This is the same reason the United States never designated Boko Haram a terrorist group for many years.

Your Leaders are always wrong with History
Nope!

They know the right history, only choosing the wrong history to achieve their aim.

Following Shehu sani's logic, abeg what led to the extra judicial killing? An arrest abi, what led to the arrest? Fill the many gaps with questions and answere and you will see that what led to boko haram isnt far from what zulum is saying. Everything is connected, from bad governance to injustice that leads to public unrest.

Zulum should not allow all the commendations and praises by Nigerians get into his head and be yarning dust.

He should respect himself.
If he doesn't how-to contribute to sensitive national issues he should shut his mouth.

E no dey tey before person get disrespected if he/she talks too much.

Protest didn't start Boko Haram it started when the senseless and unprofessional Mobile Police Officers extra judicially killed Yusuf the spiritual head of the group that transformed to Boko Haram.
It is still the extra judicial killings that we are protesting about.
Prof should not be an ignoramus he should get his fact right before opening his mouth to talk to the media.

Yes, it started from police and army brutality. In fact I was surprised they elect not to oppose police brutality along with the south.

Here is a link to remind us of that.

I just wondered what happened to governor Zullum when he made that assertion. It was totally unbecoming of a man of his repute.
