Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday announced to the State House of Assembly his intention to repeal the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007) which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies, Igbere TV reports.

He made this known during his presentation of the 2021 budget.

“Mr. Speaker and Honourable Members of the House, in light of keeping the costs of governance low and to signal selflessness in public service, we will be sending a draft executive bill to the House imminently for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.

The move if granted will see an end to the payment of pension to former governors of the state including Babatunde Fashola and Bola Tinubu.

Another story. This governor is so much unlike Obaseki of Edo state. He doesnt have the ball to go against his godfather. Imagine a governor that never requested the presence of the military, but was arm-twisted into lying that he invited the military who came and start shooting against unarmed protesters. Even if they pretend and agree to repeal the pension law, they will compensate him by increasing the share of Alphabeta in the revenue generated on behalf of the Lagos State govt lipsrsealed

Hope this will not trigger a row with the baba though it may just be a political gimmick.Perhaps it is time the state join the league of states that have implement this policy too.SERAP defeated the NGF on this issue sometime back.Fingers crossed.

Chai they want to buy the minds of Lagosians through back door...

Quote me anywhere Tinubu master minded this moves. They want to rebuild the confidence they lost....In 48 Laws of Power its called Appealing to Peoples Emotion. Until he stops Alpha Beta from collecting 10% of every revenue collected on behalf of Lagos State ..then I will know the Government is sincere.....but for now this is pure Smoke screen....hook line and sinker.

cool

Well , Tinubu is making smart moves

Past Governor enjoying pension in Lagos include

*Alhaji Lateef Jakande

*Bola Ahmed Tinubu

*Babatunde Raji Fashola

*Akinkunmi Ambode

Tinubu's pension is about N1.5m per month, N18m annually same as salary of a seating Governor of any state, we know Tinubu is worth more than $5 to $10billion USD on average, only Alpha Beta consulting made profit of over 100 billion naira, yet he has stakes in INTELS Logistics, Oando PLC, Starttimes, TVC , The nation Newspaper,

He would have agreed with tinubu to transfer all pension accrueable to him for the next 30years to Asiwaju while coming out with pretense of repealing in it.

Good move. Every right thinking leader should understand that things are no longer as it used to be. They must begin to reduce cost of governance from federal to States. He shouldn't stop there, even the jumbo pay for government officials should be cut also

To douse tensions post-EndSARS protests, Tinubu was 100% likely the person who told him to do that. There's no doubt about that. We're still waiting for when Lagos will become free from Tinubu's chokehold and stranglehold so that the governor can take decisions without any strings.

Maybe Uncle Tinubu told him to do that and make both of them look good

Sanwo would look good for proposing a plan that would take away his benafactor's pension

And Uncle BAT would look good for not contesting the move and thus look like a good elder statesman..

It's a win-win for all parties

Afterall, Uncle BAT has the entire Lasgidi in his pocket and does'nt need the pension

Neither do all ex-gomina of Lasgidi state..

We are waiting. Hopefully, this will bring misunderstanding and confusion in their camp and from there the real truth concerning what happened in Lekki tollgate will be revealed.
