The House of Representatives Committee for the 2021 Budget has turned back ministries who still have a good portion of its 2020 budget unspent.

During the project presentation, one of the committee board members, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, asked every head of parastatals with up to 70% of its 2020 budget unspent to please waste no time in leaving as it clearly shows they do not need funds for the coming year.

Let them go and share the money to their staff or organise seminars that will mentally change their orientation or use the money to change their offices to operate digitally.....

In 2020, FG MDAs are still operating with papers and pen...When it should be digital.....

You go and still open a file and be waiting for someone to carry your files around offices and return them before your request will be attended to....

angry

The things that happen in this country amazes me. On November 10 (2 days ago), Vanguard reported that 428 MDA's will be unable to pay November salary as a result of the new minimum wage.

According to the constitution (or labor laws), new minimum wage is supposed to be negotiated every 5 years. The current 30k minimum wage should have taken effect since 2016. That means by law, a new minimum wage should be negotiated next year 2021. But then, Nigeria is one comic zone. Things happen upside down here.

Funny enough, we have ministries with over 70% unspent budget?

This is not good. We know that covid 19 pandemic made it difficult for agencies to function optimally. By turning them back, they will hurriedly withdraw the money and spend it on trivialities . Like 5billion for fuel,3billion for papers etc. This is corruption.

They should be praised for being honest enough to admit they have not spent all they are at least, saving money for government

Turning them back is not a sensible decision. Government should call them back and allow them to present their budgets add 30% if it's worthy or deserves to the unspent 70% to make 100% if they are really discharging their duty with honest. But if government detected they are crooks after investigation 1Naira should not be given to them and the remaining 70% should also forfeit from them.

Unfortunately, these greedy lots will NEVER share the money to their staff. They would rather spend the money on contractors( of phantom/unproductive projects) who are actually proxies of the DGs, Directors, Minister etc.

They even try for letting the Committee know they have unspent funds, unlike some who will just present ghost project being executed with funds. Like one parastatal that started executing uncalled for projects in the name of exhausting the funds while they keep a good percentage of the fund to themselves.

Sad to say, outdated and substandard materials are being used.

A friend who manages the UBA in Garki told me that I over 80% of every ministry allocated funds are kept in fixed deposits for as long as possible. The minister and his clique own the interest. They don’t execute any meaningful project and they make lots of money. Even he told me about a state minister under works who makes over 100million from ensuring his own allocated southern project funds are kept in the fixed deposit of his company despite the TSA rubbish. There is no redemption for our leaders, curses upon curses for their entire bloodline by God’s power!

Such ministries should be investigated for corruption! Monies budgeted to these ministries should be put to use, Offcourse that’s why they were given it in the first place.

It then shows they have not implemented what they budgeted for. It a tricky way of looting, budget upon budget upon budget, after two years when the noise of umimplementation may have died down, previous unspent budget are then pushed into private accounts. 9ja for show.
