Minister of Youths And Sports Denies Asking For N81m To Cut Grass In Abuja Stadium

Sunday Dare, Nigeria's Minister of Youths and Sports, has denied reports he asked for N81 million to be used to cut grass and weed in Abuja stadium, IgbereTV reports.

Reports were rife online on sunday November 29, that while speaking during the one-day seminar organized by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) FCT chapter, Sunday Dare disclosed that the ministry under his supervision, approached the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) for assessment of the stadium, which was built in 2003 with N53 billion on a 29 hectares (72 acres) of land.

“We approached AEPB to come see what can be done to clear the grass and weed in the stadium and they told us it will cost us N81m. If we tell Nigerians we used N81m which is not even available, there will be an outcry. The funds are not really there for us and that is why we are partnering with private investors to bring back the key components of our infrastructures,” he was quoted as saying

Some media houses interpreted it as him saying the Ministry needed N81 million to cut the grass and weed in the stadium.

Reacting via his Twitter handle, The Minister wrote:

The first attribute every Nigerian politician has is how to deny their action when it becomes clear that the people are wise to their evil intention. I dont know any Nigerian politician who doesnt have that attribute.

Likewise the first attribute of Nigerian media is to twist comments to suit their headlines and to make more profits from misleading public.

This AEPB is a government agency that is giving this type of outrageous bill for something that will not cost up to N100,000. This government I hail you.

Hmmm..... N81M to cut grass..... (we did not accept it because) the funds are not there ... therefore we have to partner with private investors (to make the funds available so we can cut the grass).

What misrepresentation?

someone said 81million was requested by the environmental agency to do the clean up, and the money is not available for them to spend reasons they are partnering with private entities to recover the asset so what's the fuss all about. he never said he will spend 81million. Am aware of Adopt-a-pitch program of this minister where wealthy Nigerians Adopt a stadium to refurbish. Nigerian youths am sorry for you all

Don't totally every news you see on social media. Give a few minutes, a few hours,a few days, a few months and sometimes a few years the real news will be made clearer.

Meanwhile the news executives have made their money from the clicks, re- clicks, tweets and re-tweets.

Who will bell the cat?

I just want to go to school and become someone in life

My friend, going to school is not a means to an end. It is an end in its self.

You go to school to broaden your horizon. You go to school to learn to think critically and analytically. The disciplines of schooling is to make you tick. A good school hopefully teaches you to be a contributor to society, a problem solver and a solution to the myriad societal challenges.

As for becoming someone in life, that depends largely on your choices.
