10 Best States To Choose For NYSC, To Make Money Or Get A Job After NYSC by obrien29(m): 1:36am On Nov 30, 2020
So, on our list of 10 best states to choose for NYSC are states you have access to jobs and businesses; states where you can easily settle after the program as they have good standard of living, and you can make money or get a job in them.

Nevertheless, that we focused on jobs and businesses doesn’t mean we neglected other factors like security, cost of living and interactive capacity of the host states. We also included other factors as well. While jobs and businesses are the priority, we also let other factors serve as part of determinants of our choice.

10 Best States to Choose for NYSC

Lagos
We know most of you expected this to be our number one, and here it is. It is a little bit overflogged that Lagos is the number one destination for intending corp members, but it’s just the fact. Lagos is hyped, and if not overhyped, but it is worth it and more.

The reason why Lagos continues to be on top of the list of 10 best states to choose for NYSC, and to make money or get a job, is quite obvious.

One, Lagos is the commercial center of Nigeria. It is where most, or approximately more than 50% of the country’s business transactions occur. Most businesses in Nigeria have their head offices in Lagos. It is home to Nigeria’s largest seaports, airports, markets, buildings and population.

Two, due to having Lagos as the commercial center of Nigeria, it is easier to get jobs here. Most graduates can attest to it that over 60% of job opportunities in Nigeria are found in Lagos. You’ll want to serve and get a job along with it.

Three, in most places in Lagos, cost of living is cheap. We aren’t talking of all these highbrow areas like Lekki or Banana Island. It’s actually easy for a corper to survive in Lagos than some other Nigerian cities. Food is very cheap in Lagos. Clothes, electronics, transport and housing are cheap in most places.

Four, Lagos is home to the elite of the elites in Nigeria. As a youth corp member, you may meet someone that know someone who knows someone, you may never know. In fact, to show you how good Lagos is, 75% of Nigerian dollar billionaires live in Lagos.

Lagos is a great choice if you’re about making decision on the states to serve. It will give you most of the things you require as a corp member. However, Lagos is the most difficult to get among our 10 best states to choose for NYSC, and to make money or get a job. Lagos is so competitive as most corp members choose Lagos as their number one choice.

To get Lagos as your state of service is very difficult.

It is worthwhile to serve in Lagos as there are more benefits in this state than in most other states.

State Salary/Allawee: Lagos State Government pays an average of 10,000 naira monthly. Nevertheless, if you are posted to some private workplaces called Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), you can get paid as high as 70,000 naira and an average of 30,000 naira.

Ogun
On our number two is one of the largest state in Nigeria, Ogun State. Due to its nearness to Lagos, the state gets lots of investments, companies and businesses. The businesses in Ogun State are largely factories and places of production along Sangotedo, Igbesa and Agbara axis of the state.

Most companies have their factories situated in Ogun State, even one of Dangote’s plant is in Ogun State. It is a heavily industrialized state.

However, we’ll advise those whose courses are connected to anything technical to try it out rather than those in the social sciences or arts. This doesn’t mean that there are no opportunities for those in the art and social sciences sectors. There are opportunities for every course, but most of the establishments in this state are factories in need of technical courses.

Instead of choosing a more competitive Lagos that is difficult to get, you should choose Ogun State. The cost of living in the state is cheap, the people are sociable and nice, and there are job and business opportunities. Since it is also closer to Lagos, you can easily connect to Lagos for other job opportunities.

State Salary/Allawee: Ogun State Government does not pay corpers in case you are posted to government institutions and schools. Private businesses in the state pay corpers as high as 35,000 naira and an average of 15,000 naira.

3. Abuja (FCT)
This is the capital of the country. This stands as a solid choice in our 10 best states to choose for NYSC and to make money or get a job. It is the country’s capital; due to this, it draws a large population and businesses to itself.

For a corp member considering choosing Abuja as a choice for NYSC, the person should be careful for its high cost of living. Abuja is close to anywhere you want to go in Nigeria, and there are lot more opportunities here than in most states in Nigeria, but it is very expensive.

This state made our number three considering the opportunities it has. There are lots of head offices in Abuja, and if you’re the kind that would love working in a government institution after NYSC, Abuja is the right choice for you.

State Salary/Allawee: Abuja does not pay corpers. However, private businesses that take in corpers can pay as high as 40,000 naira and an average of 20,000 naira.

4. Rivers
This state houses the richest Local Government in Nigeria, Obi-Akpor LGA, which covers most of Port Harcourt city. Rivers is considered as the heart of Nigerian Petroleum Industry, and as such the state is very rich.

The truth of the matter is that although the state maybe the center of oil in Nigeria, they aren’t wealthy as you may think. Anyway, Rivers is still an economically viable state. It is a wise choice to put Rivers as one of your destination of settlement, relocation or NYSC choice.

Rivers is populated and industrialized to a great extent. For those who studied engineering, petroleum/chemical engineering in particular, this is one of the best state to consider to choose for NYSC. There a lot of industries that would need your services.

You must note that the cost of living in this state is high. It is also not that secured as there are constant reports of violence. However, the economic survivability is good, and thus makes the state promising for corpers.

State Salary/Allawee: Rivers State Government claims to pay youth corp members 15,000 naira monthly. There is no constant payment of this. Private businesses in the state can pay corpers as high as 50,000 naira and an average of 30,000 naira.

5. Kano
This is the first northern state mentioned so far. It is considered as the heart of Northern Nigeria as it is heavily industrialized compared to the other northern states. Aside its industrialization, this state is the home of wealthy elites of Nigeria like the Dangote and Dantata family and many prospering markets.

This state is heavily populated. Aside religious misunderstanding here and there, it is equally secured. Businesses that aren’t against the belief of its people thrives very well here. The cost of living is very cheap. Housing, food, clothes, transport are all very cheap here.

We propose this state to those enterprising intending corpers. This state is very good for business, especially for people who are still starting up. It is also not bad for people looking towards securing jobs after NYSC as there are jobs as well.

State Salary/Allawee: Kano pays corpers 5,000 naira monthly. Private businesses in the state can pay as high as 20,000 naira and an average of 10,000 naira.

6. Delta
This state was created in the 90s. The state capital, Asaba, is one of the most developing cities in Nigeria. As a developing state, cost of living in the state is not high. There also some industries in the state, and it is an oil rich state.

The major cities in the state are Warri, Sapele and Asaba. Living in these cities is affordable, and there are industries and heavy businesses in them. Securing a job here after NYSC is not too difficult. The state is secure.

For those who are interested in working in petroleum sector, they should consider working towards getting placement to the oil rich city of Warri.

State Salary/Allawee: The state pays 5,000 monthly. Private businesses in the state pays corpers as high as 35,000 naira and an average of 15,000 naira.

7. Anambra
This state houses the biggest market in West Africa, Onitsha Main Market. It also houses the biggest spare parts market in Nigeria at Nnewi. There are industries in the state owned largely by indigenes of the state; they’re scattered in the state.

Anambra is not only a trading state, it is also industrialized. The cost of living in this state is one of the cheapest you can get in Southern Nigeria. It is secure. However, there are cases of petty robbery and stealing in Onitsha.

This should be one of top destination for an enterprising intending corper. It is good for business as any business sells here. Doing business in this state is not expensive at all. This state is also good for people who would look for jobs after NYSC.

This state is solid in our best states to choose for NYSC and make money or get a job.

State Salary/Allawee: Anambra, at the moment, is the highest paying state for corpers. They pay 8,000 naira monthly to the corpers serving in her institutions. Private businesses can pay as high as 30,000 naira and an average of 15,000 naira.

8. Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom is the highest oil producing state in Nigeria. There are top oil companies like Mobile in the state. It is also a beautiful state with sociable people.

This state should be a destination for enterprising corpers and those who will look for jobs after NYSC. Aside that the state pays well, it is also a very calm, beautiful place to reside with her recent urban development and tourist sites.

The cost of living in the state is average. There is good security in the state and businesses thrive here. Serving in Akwa Ibom is a decision worth making.

State Salary/Allawee: Akwa Ibom pays corpers 5,000 naira monthly. Private businesses in the state pays as high as 35,000 naira and an average of 15,000 naira.

9. Enugu
Enugu is “the coal city state.” It was one of the first regional capitals even before Nigeria’s independence. It is a peaceful and prosperous state.

The cost of living in the state is average, although it is high in Enugu, the state’s capital. The state is secure. There are a handful of industries scattered here and there, but the major source of income for most indigenes is government revenue.

This state is one of the top destination for intending corpers who want a very secured environment good for any kind of business. The state is favorable to businesses. There also jobs in the state.

State Salary/Allawee: Enugu State government pays corpers 4,000 naira monthly for those in rural areas, and 1,000 naira for those in urban areas. Private businesses in the state can pay as high as 30,000 naira and average of 15,000 naira.

10. Nasarrawa
Nasarrawa is very close to Abuja. Just like Ogun State has good investments due to its nearness to Lagos, so does Nasarrawa for its nearness to Abuja. This state has low cost of living, and it is secure. It is a good choice of the best states to choose for NYSC and make money or get a job.

A large part of this state is Christian, so it won’t be difficult for a Southerner as it is not really a core Islamic state. In some of their towns like Akwanga, majority of the indigenes are Christians. Aside their compatible religion for Nigerians from the south, the state is good for business and jobs. Businesses thrive in this state, especially Agricultural businesses. Their land and weather is good for any form of Agricultural business.

State Salary/Allawee: The state government pays 3,000 monthly to corpers. Private businesses in the state can corpers as high as 30,000 naira and an average of 10,000 naira.

Nothing sweet pass serving in the North

If you aim to just catch cruise, chop Cow leg and ishi ewu, turkey, chicken at a very cheap price, if you would love to stay in the GRA of a state and play golf with sunusi lanudo, and other top politicians or do you wish to hang out with 2face idibia? and other fun which you might never experience elsewhere.

Then searve in Benue state,Markurdi to be precise.

Trust me you would thank me later, and just a hint, while looking for house, please go to GRA, there are mansions with exclusive boys quarters lower than10k rent. And most times the landlord gives you lots of food, tomato, yam, meat — yes because they have it plenty and If they don't give you, it will spoil.

Yess!!! Things are that cheap! Light is 24/7, security is tight because it's GRA, And most important they value corpers alot, their police and market women, they all love corpers.

Maybe because the state lacks education and majority wish they had finished school and become a corper

The service year should be an opportunity to learn, to make impact. I hope young folks consider opportunity to make impacts over this relevant financial incentive.

Lies... The best state to serve in Nigeria is Borno, it has so many job opportunities ranging from NGO to Boko Haram businesses... As long as you can blend or behave like a Roman in Rome, the state is for you.

FCT number 1, any day, any time

Those wasters of destinies posted me to Plateau, redeployed me to Ekiti, I redeployed to my number 1 choice, I never regretted doing it.

Abuja is good for any smart, skillful corper.

The accommodation is fair if you don't mind living in the suburbs;

The transportation is fair even if you are staying in Suleja, Bwari or Nyanya, you won't spend more than N1,000 a day;

Opportunities abound if you are smart, early 2010s when I served, nysc allowance N18k, my Office paid N42k, home lesson N6k and at least every week, I get tips like 5k - 7k.

Above all, Abuja people are kind, if you are a truthful person, you can easily get a recommendation for better work.
