Is there any way to tell? Do they have certain names, look a certain way?

If me as a Yoruba man marries an osu, will my kids be considered also osu?

What %age of the Igbo population is osu?

Also, where do most of the osu in Nigeria live? In the villages, cities, Lagos. . . ?

Just curious, trying to understand this phenomenon and how it affects romance.

@Reality101: So nobody cares about it any more? You would marry one, and your parents/relatives wouldn't care?
Re: How Can You Identify An Osu? by deniyor: 6:51pm On Apr 01, 2011
OP
It is true if you marry an OSU you are one, you and your kids are one automatically. However two things work for you:
1. This is the 21st century. Such practices seize to exist in Nigeria. THis is the age of education and enlightenment.
2. You don't have to worry about marrying an OSU cos your family is one. Let other families worry about marrying you.

Parents / Relatives don't even bother with such things anymore. Of course there are some traditionalists like the OP and his family that are so rooted in their traditionalist practices that kill themselves over such things. But they dont matter and are a dying breed.

I am not sure if you have difficulty reading. It isn't a part of my village's culture or traditional religion. Otherwise, presumably I'd know about it and wouldn't be asking questions. . .

@deniyor: For all I know, you are right. Maybe I am an osu. Maybe one of my ancestors moved westwards from his village to mine, to escape discrimination and persecution.

It doesn't have much meaning in my culture though. . . so whether I am or not, doesn't matter.

the problem with posting anything on nl is you have every tom d.ick and harry trying to poke their non-nigerian nose in matters that dont concern them.

because their own country either doesnt have any forum, or they're persona non-grata there.
Re: How Can You Identify An Osu? by Nobody: 8:38pm On Apr 01, 2011
Funny enough some Nigerians on here are clueless about the topic as well.
Some people are just r3tards looking for an argument when they ought to knitting socks.
