SUPERSPORT, a foremost
premium sports content
aggregator on the DStv
platform has secured the rights
to the UEFA Champions ’ League
matches for the Nigerian
territory for the 2011/ 2012
season. By this development,
SuperSport will have the rights
to all 146 live matches to the
prestigious Champions ’ League
as well as the UEFA Super Cup
and 205 live matches in the
Europa League.
The deal was sealed as a result of
an offer from the previous
rights holder. The offer to
SuperSport was made as a result
of agreement between the rights
holder and the previous
broadcaster which gave the
rights holder the authority to
sub-license the broadcast rights
to a third party broadcaster.
Speaking on the new
development, the chairman of
DStv Nigeria, Mr. Adewunmi
Ogunsanya said that his
company is happy that the
Champions ’ League, just like the
English Premier League, is
returning to DStv which is the
traditional home of the best
sports content in the world. “I
am personally delighted that we
have been able to underline our
commitment to our subscribers
that we will continue to make
strategic investment decisions to
keep DStv as the premium pay
TV choice in the Nigeria”.

This is awesome. Now I can enjoy the very best of football once again.
You are the best DSTv
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by snowdrops(m): 10:45pm On Apr 03, 2011
this surely does not provide a level playing field for other broadcasters. dstv having so much access can make them abuse their monopoly
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by mrofficial(m): 10:55pm On Apr 03, 2011
End of hiTV?
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by DoubleN(m): 11:02pm On Apr 03, 2011
We only have HITV to blame.
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by aieromon(m): 11:11pm On Apr 03, 2011
Read an interview with Toyin Subair in The Nation newspaper 03/02/2011 where the guy was talking about moving HITV from a soccer-centric paytv provider to an entertainment one.You got to read the article and laugh your brains out.I'm dumping them for good as soon as the UCL is over.

Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by dboyfams: 12:09am On Apr 04, 2011
HiTv management are nt astute in any sense. they shud av let go of d whole license instead of subletin 2 Dstv. They will definitely run at loss since Dstv is showin EPL alrdy n dey a showin UCL nw. so there's no need subscribin wit 2 providrs where 1 of dem can provide all we need 2 watch. Hitv dem don chop profit wit busines mony. U don hear am.
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by BB013(m): 5:07am On Apr 04, 2011

Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by 2sleek2NV(m): 8:17am On Apr 04, 2011
This is another reason DSTV increased their subscription at this time so they wont have to do it when the next season starts
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by zenus(m): 8:31am On Apr 04, 2011
This guys are up for business monopolizing the TV section.
This's unfair
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by ahf(m): 9:41am On Apr 04, 2011
As much as I am disgusted with my experiences with DSTV
- E16 errors after paying subscription.
- call center of absolute disgrace.
- SMS self service that never works (but keeps wasting customer's airtime)

The competition has not lived up to expectation.

As a consumer, I only hope a competitor of equal strength and service can show up, so some of us can promptly dump DSTV.

Something similar to the current GSM providers competition would be fantastic for pay-per-view television in Nigeria.

Business Men, Up your Game !!!! - You have to deliver to compete,

Up GLO !!! MTN, Airtel and co. now know whats up.
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by yiboboy: 10:02am On Apr 04, 2011
^^^ On point, in the absence of competition DSTV becomes a vampire sucking naija blood. 10k per month for shoddy services!!! angry We think they the best simply because there's presently no keen competitor.
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by Gbenge77(m): 11:01am On Apr 04, 2011
there subscription fees are just too high.

DSTV remains the best in terms of quality. Hitv was never a good competitor
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by Hawaii: 11:22am On Apr 04, 2011
I really feel dismayed at this info because just this morning, i was constrained to send them a strongly worded letter complaining of thier shoddy services. Now they have an absolute monopoly and the clueless people at HITV actually sublet the ECL to them?
Wonders will never end.
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by tashanja(m): 11:37am On Apr 04, 2011
Whenever you have monopoly, its the consumer that suffers.
Unfortunately, DSTV has now wiped out all the competition and is now in a commanding position to dictate and do as it pleases - we its customers are truly now at its mercy - so help us God cry
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by dillikonko: 11:39am On Apr 04, 2011
They initially killed and buried HITV but now they have just sealed their coffin, too bad cry cry cry
Re: Champions League Returns To Dstv by Reference(m): 1:28pm On Apr 04, 2011
Typical. When we were saying a few months ago that Hitv should have combined with smaller cable operators to raise the cash for the rights it was like 'I'm the 100 pound gorilla in here'. Now Hitv, who's your daddy, huh Toyin Subair is certainly not Mike Adenuga though MTN surely is more of a challenge to GLO. It could be done if not for poor management and the age old Nigerian gravitator - greed. Good thing though they decided to engage the ejector seat a few feet from the ground. Next year the thing would have become worthless.
