Ex-Council Boss Who Exposed Governor Masari's Payment Of N30m To Bandits Despite ‘Claiming He Paid 800m’ Arrested

The police in Katsina State have arrested a former caretaker chairman of the Jibia Local Government Area of the state, Haruna Musa Mota, over alleged ties with bandits.

The Katsina police spokesperson, Gambo Isah, confirmed the arrest of the former chairman.

He added that Mota was arrested for allegedly aiding and abetting bandits operating in the state and had already been charged to court.

SaharaReporters recalled that an audio recording had resurfaced recently where Mota was heard discussing with a commander of a banditry group, Awulu, over last December abduction of over 300 students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.

The former LGA chairman told the bandits commander that Governor Aminu Masari claimed he paid the group N800 million to secure the freedom of the students.

But Awulu immediately interrupted and said, “You said what? N800m? How many millions again? Who said that? So, they paid N30 million and claimed N800m, now they have stopped cattle rearing.”

Speaking further, Mota said, “I will send you the speech and I will advise you speak out so citizens will know you did what you did for peace and what they paid you was N30 million. This is not fair at all, they call us thieves while they are the real thieves. We want peace but this governor has no integrity.”

Gunmen, who came on motorbikes on December 11, 2020 invaded the Katsina school around 11 pm, shooting indiscriminately to scare residents.

The operation led to the disappearance of over 300 students.

After their release on December 17, 2020, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said the rescue operation was facilitated by repentant bandits and no ransom was paid.

Masari also said insinuations that ransom was paid for the release of the boys from their captors were false.

“I insist, we did not pay any ransom to the kidnappers, it was purely negotiation.

“Like I stated earlier, those involved in the negotiations include my adviser, some top military and police operatives, members of the Miyetti Allah; they were all involved in the negotiations.

“We do not pay ransom to bandits because if we do that, we would be encouraging them to be more daring,” the governor said on the night the boys were released.

While narrating the role of the military in the rescue operation, the Defence Headquarters said the troops closed in on the abductors from four different fronts.

It said that kinetic and non-kinetic approaches were used to ensure all the boys were rescued unhurt, saying that there was resistance from the abductors who laid an ambush against the troops.

"Following the directive, the troops closed in on the abductors from four different fronts, including the reinforcement that was made from other divisions to ensure that the entire location was sealed off.

The bandits were all under siege, and they were fully aware of that, feeling the impacts of the presence of the troops both from the air and on the ground," Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, John Enenche, had said.

Terrorism, "banditry" and war are very profitable businesses, a bad govt like this will do everything within its power to keep them going. It won't surprise me if we hear in the evening that northern leaders keep being visited by boko haram leader, shekau just like this ex-local govt boss was recorded discussing with a terrorist on phone. These people know and have the solution to terrorism but won't stop it, both terrorists and terror-fighters value the profit in it more than the general welfare of the people embarassed

In Katsina State, the General’s home state begging bandits for peace instead of routing them has become an awkward attribute of governance.

Even the soldiers, police and other security personnel are as unsafe as the general public. It is a state of hopelessness that should have provoked new initiatives, but the regime appears impervious to change

Katsina State, the home-state of President Buhari has been under siege as bandits and terrorist have engaged in wanton destruction of lives and properties.

While sis home state Governor-Masari is negotiating with armed bandits in their hoods, Mr.President is negotiating with BH terrorists. How can insecurity be contain?

Just imagine! Government is shrouding the activities of bandits & rewarding them in secret while criminalizing those who expose their criminality. How do a sane human being expect an end to this self-inflicted insecurity challenge?

Banditry and terrorism is big business in the North, the leaders pay 30m ransom and will probably remove 800m as ransom from government cover

Any insider who exposes them is quickly arrested to shut him up from further exposing the Northern government, at the end of the day government people are the chief bandits

200 million people are citizens of Nigeria according to estimated figure. Some of these people are useless, some want to be useful but they don't know how. My pain is that the government job is to make useless people useful, or unscrupulous element will find a way to engage them.

There are so many people just existing because they have no roadmap for the future, people with limited imagination who will go with whatever, Use people, don't just accumulate thousands of friends, use them to advance your own purpose.

I see many people willing to be used in this country, people who will gladly follow a leader than to lead,
people need a leader to follow, some body who will lead them to the promise Land.
