congrats bro. You are on the right track. Am yet to see egg from my batch(19wks). You can stimulate them to sexual maturity by adding light. I intend to add light when they are 20wks.

cheers bro
We appreciate everyone for their words of encouragement and importantly thank God for His goodness.
We considered photo-stimulation but I'm actually an absentee farmer (visits only once a week) and coupled with the state of power failure & fuel scarcity in town. The literaturei read emphasized on consistency once you adopt photo-stimulation.
The only source of concern for me is that the feed consumption is low (about 85g/hen/day). Please advise.

@Segun1976 Congrats.
as stated, nothing unusual in d production. I know of a farm that picked just 2 eggs every day for the 1st 2 wks of lay but they are getting more than 50% now less than four weeks of lay.

House. Smone shd pls help me out with what can be used to keep SNAKE away from my farm

The last ND vaccine was 4weeks ago when they were 19weeks.

If d last ND vaccine was given 4 weeks ago....then I think it is not yet time to give dem lasota.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by tabontabon: 8:38am On May 25, 2015
Lasota should be every 6wks,deworming 8wks.monitor the birds closely,if u notice any showing signs of weakness,isolate and treat.water is important and make sure their litter is always dry,if on deep litter.
endy247:
Thanx tabontabon, bt what are d tins dat i shld or shldn't do, cos i plan to give them lasota 2morow or shld i suspend it.

Som advice planting tobacco around the farm,som say spreading carbide (d one used by panel beaters 4welding)helps.som say burning tires around farm boundary(1 has 2b careful nt 2cause respiratory disease 4d birds).
You can also try any of these:
#place boiled eggs around dpen,if d snake swallows d egg,it gets stuck in d throath & unable 2move.
#if u have any dead bird,get a fishing hook,stick it inside d bird,tie a string 2d hook and tie other end 2a pole/smtin heavy. If d snake swallows dbird,d hook gets stuck in d throath,then u can do dneedful.
TAKE NOTE: smoked snake meat dey sweet for egusi soup,or beta pepper soup.
Above all,clear dpen surroundings.

My Oga.
I know that ash is used in controlling odour and lies. it works by preventing the litters from caking (the birds used it for bathing)

jamp. We are fine thanks. I have actually been here as regularly as before; just didn't have much to say by way of comments. The fuel crisis forced me into suspending photo stimulation about 5 days ago. Production dropped by about 22% initially. As at today, there has been slight improvement in the production. The second set of birds started laying about a week ago. Production is about 4%. The uniformity in growth was poor. In all, we are making good progress. Thanks Bro.

@davidzfarm though the link was not through but I was able to check google with the keyword.

What I was really asking is your personal experience, I believe some of your birds are SHIKA BROWN.

what is the feed consumption like?
Is the DOC same price as other BROWN LAYERS?
What is their maturity age? (from your experience)

Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Adeyinka1991: 10:56pm On May 28, 2015
although you have tried alot, but has someone has said earlier,i will advice you to start with the rearing of broiler, but with your mode of construction of the poultry i dont think its suitable for rearing broiler because you av already covered all space with metal pan which suppose to be covered with ordinary net for free movement of air to the birds,in other to reduce the degree of hotness of the birds temperature, but to be sincere what you constructed is very good for rearing of layers birds in deepliter system...............................
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 11:45am On May 29, 2015
jamp. Thanks so much. Much appreciated. My birds dropped at exactly 20 weeks, though I started photostimulation at 18 weeks. Given their weights at 17 weeks, I believe some will lay within the next week. Success.
