Elections won’t take place in 15 out of Nigeria’s 109 senatorial districts on Saturday April 9 2011. Attahiru Jega said ballot papers for areas where elections have been postponed were used up last Saturday.

Press Statement by Jega

"We are happy to say that the elections will go ahead this weekend as planned. Result sheets haven't only been delivered to the country but have been received by State/Local Government officers. In some areas, a good quantity of ballot pap, ers were used and can't be reprinted before Saturday. 15 of 109 Senatorial Districts and 48 of 360 Federal Constituencies will have elections postponed for fresh ballot papers. The chairman is listing the areas where elections will be postponed on Saturday. We will make the list available on the EiE website shortly. Please note that elections will hold generally across Nigeria except in few senatorial districts/federal constituencies. Postponed NASS elections will hold on Tuesday, April 26, together with Governorship and State Assembly elections. IN NUMBERS: 13.76% of 109 senatorial districts, 13.33% of 360 federal constituencies will have elections moved to 26. Press conference ends, and the chairman of INEC will now take some questions. YOU CAN STAY BACK TO PROTECT YOUR VOTES." - Prof. Jega, INEC Chairman
