Insecurity: Allow Regional Security System To Function, Peter Obi Tells FG

The former vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ex-Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has asked the Federal Government to allow states to operate their regional security system.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Newsnight, Obi said the move would help curb the myriads of security challenges the country faces.

“Allow some region-like state security system to function. The government has to come out genuinely to tackle the issue of security of lives and properties by investing in them,” he said.

“I served as a governor and when I found out that we had a security issue, I decided that every community in Anambra State must have their own security outfit funded and supported by the government.

“If you go to Anambra State, every community has a pickup for security. In fact, some own two or three. A community like Nnewi owns four or five because it is critical.”

For Nigeria to surmount the several challenges and become better, Obi said the nation needs to restructure.

He explained that his call for the nation’s restructuring is imperative because it appears the systems that have been operated over times isn’t producing the needed result.

When asked what should be done to prevent further loss of lives in the country, the PDP chieftain reiterated his call for regional security architecture.

He explained that for the citizens to be safe, communities should have a network that will effectively guarantee their security, noting that it is the best approach.

“Just support every community, let governments of the states support every community. There is no better protection or security you can have within a community than those communities being in charge of their own security because they know the criminals.

“They know those who are foreigners in their community, so it is very easy. You can’t come to my village and provide a better community than my villagers,” he added.

The federal system needs to be decentralised, especially as in concerns the security system in this dire times. When the security system is localised, it simply means the Fulani herdsmen that terrorise Benue or any part of the Southern part when caught won't have to call his Oga in Abuja and get released. The Oga of every security system especially the police is in the capital of that state, and more importantly from that state.

We all know the solution, but the devilish government is afraid of the solution.

Yes those pickups are securing us.
Anambra crime rose to a high rate with kidnapping here and there.
Uwazurike's then MASSOB group were also a menace, intimidating, terrorising, harrasing and robbing residents, till Peter obi had to quench them with army and SARS.
After then came another local crime group that brought robbery and kidnapping to another level. Even the police are scared to show up when contacted.That is the history of those pickups.

Peter obi had to strengthen the local vigilantes, buy those pickups for the and crime cases became solved. If you are in anambra and want to report crime scene just call the AVG(anambra vigilantee group).

Till today , if you see police parade criminals in anambra, just know 80% or more were handed over to them by the AVG.
If you like be waiting for Nigerian Police who are yet to receive alert to come and rescue you from terrorists.
