The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, has said Nigerians should hold the government responsible for banditry and general insecurity in the country.

AYCF National President, Yerima Shettima said it is the sole responsibility of the government to provide security for Nigerians, but it has failed to do so.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Shettima urged the government to ensure security agencies are adequately equipped with manpower.

According to the AYCF National President: “The government should be held responsible. It’s the sole responsibility of the government to provide security which is key to the citizens.

“Despite the fact that some of us are aware that the security agencies have been overstretched at one point or the other, we are saying they should consider additional manpower and provide the necessary equipment to encourage these agencies.

“We must consider equipping the Nigerian Armed Forces. Intelligence gathering is key, but they need to build trust between them and the communities, so they can get more information about these criminal minded people. These criminal minded people are in the community and some know them very well.”

In the North, the issue of banditry and kidnapping has been on the rise lately.

Some students in Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Niger, and Zamfara States were abducted by bandits.

While students abducted in some states have been released, those from Kaduna State are still with the abductors.

That's true

This is what happens when you run a non-productive economy like Nigeria...an economy based on over importation and selling of raw materials and extractive products.

At the end of the day, the money earned is not enough because we don't control the price (Prices for oil and even agricultural and minerals are not controlled by the countries that produce them, they are controlled in London and New York)...plus we stifle job growth by importing and importing.

That's one reason why I don't back the breakup of Nigeria, because there is going to be a big fight over control of exportable resources. In every part of Nigeria, the rich people are either exporters of raw materials, or people who sell imported stuff to the employees of exporters of raw materials. People like Innoson and Dangote are the exception.

If you want the youth to be well employed, support parties and politicians committed to making Nigeria productive by being an exporter of industrial goods whose prices you can control. If you believe in splitting up Nigeria, then get your secessionist leaders to develop a plan that would see your new country become industrial fast....

Or we face anarchy either way....

When the North is ready to address unproductive over-population amid scarce resources; Religious extremism that still believe in conversion by conquest and Illiteracy which made them see Western education as sinful. Only then will I take them serious.

The north is truly in a rogue position now, the blood thirsty elements have infiltrated every place with the help of the government while leaving the poor masses at same time at the mercy of everyday menace.

If something is not wrong some how then some where. How can it be that all the Nigeria security agencies are in the hands of Northerners and this same region is the hot bed of terrorism in the whole of Africa and the world?

To me that is the result of playing politics with the professionalism through religion and tribalism!

Banditry and terrorism is the north nemesis.. If you don't speak out again evil due to nepotism and religious favouritism then expect some hard log to fall real hard back at you.. What the north is experiencing was nurtured by the common and elite northerner. My take on this.
