The Alliance for Democracy(AD) has flagged off a mobilization exercise for its members and Yoruba in the North to ensure they vote massively for President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday.

A meeting of leaders of the AD and Yoruba community in the North held in Abuja on Tuesday further reinforced the decision of the party to adopt President Jonathan as its candidate for the presidential election this weekend.

A leader of the AD, Senator Femi Okurounmu, who spoke at the Abuja meeting said that the Yoruba have got many reasons to back Jonathan.

He stated that apart from Jonathan’s recognition of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, by naming the Liberty Stadium Ibadan after him, the president is also a detrabilised Nigerian.

He said that the Yoruba have every reason to protect one of the prophecies of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who predicted that an Ijaw man would soon be president of Nigeria.

Okurounmu stated that all other presidential hopefuls were not committed to the cause of the South-West.

National chairman of the AD, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa said in an address at the meeting that President Jonathan remained the choice of the Yoruba people across the country.

He said that the AD has also adopted the President as a mark of confidence that the man would deliver on his promises.

Senator Akinfenwa said: “The Yoruba, in living to the true ethic of Omoluabi, will never fail to identify a good talent wherever he or she is resident. We have seen the true qualities of a good leader in President Jonathan. He is amiable, and not desperate for power.

“He promised on electoral reforms and we saw that he immediately set the machinery in motion through his appointments into INEC. We have seen in him a man who is capable of redefining Nigerian politics and bringing back the desired integrity, fairness and respect the country deserves in international community.”

Yoruba's in the north ? The north was won by PDP if i'm not mistaken, the mobilisation should be done in the south-west where PDP didn't do anything.

Dont mind my Yoruba opportunistic brothers. They want to eat their cake and have it. The want to sneak into the Jonathan train from the back door at the last minute. Jonathan will win without them. PDP does not need them.
