Call your foot soldiers in the North to order •Ex-minister, Fani-Kayode, tells Buhari
Written by Idowu Samuel,Abuja Tuesday, 26 April 2011

Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has appealed to the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) to toe the path of honour by intervening in the post-election violence in some parts of the North by appealing to rampaging youths in the affected areas to sheathe their swords.

Fani-Kayode made this known in a statement while congratulating President Goodluck Jonathan on his victory in the presidential election, which he said came about because the rest of Nigeria saw him as a unifying factor for all segments of the country.

He said: “I urge General Muhammadu Buhari to tread the path of decency and honour by calling on his supporters to stop killing people and to stop committing all these barbaric and outrageous atrocities in the North.

“Too much blood has been shed and too many lives have been taken in his name and over this election. The truth is that as the mass murders were going on, it was his
name and his posters that the perpetrators were calling and carrying. They were indeed his foot soldiers and the blame for these atrocities lie squarely with him alone.

The fact that he didn’t win the election proves that his efforts at ruling Nigeria were not sufficient to see him through, and no amount violence, murder, arson, intimidation, court cases or litigation can change that.”

Fani Kayode is no longer relevant, his attention seeking gesture is now welcomed.

The fact that you cannot fault his arguments constitutes irrelevance in your books? Damn!
He made quite a few very relevant arguments that can't be ignored, like the beautiful one below:

“Too much blood has been shed and too many lives have been taken in his name and over this election. Buhari has already condemned the violence. If they don't listen to him, then they are clearly not under his control, and thus not his foot soldiers. What else is he supposed to do?

Stop defending him. Your own people are not in support of Buhari. This shows how out of touch you with your own people. Live in Naija before you comment.

Exactly. I wonder why that is so hard to understand for grown men.

Buhari certainly encouraged a hard-stance during the campaigns. He might have even being hoping for a massive protest. In addition, there was both underground and open encouragement of rebellion, especially by the NPLF to reclaim the north's so-called "mandate" from GEJ. Buhari turned out to be the potential beneficiary of all these at the end, if it worked.

Now does that lead to material culpability for the carnage that ensued? I don't know. Perhaps the SSS has evidence to support such a position. If so, good riddance in a court of law, otherwise let's focus on calming nerves and bringing severe punishment to people who actually committed the crimes.

Remember Saro-Wiwa. Don't create an unnecessary hero for religious fanatics that are looking for any kind of rallying cry to cause more mayhem.

My position has always being instead of focusing on the puppet masters who are unlikely to caught red-handed any time soon, put the fear of God and of the State into their errand boys. Catch, try swiftly and eliminate as many have been caught red-handed perpetrating evil, whether sent by others or of their own volition. Next time, others will think twice, three times, even if called upon by satan himself to do it again. If we can get them under threat of punishment to reveal concrete evidence against their paymasters, then we go after them based on real evidence.

^-- God has blessed you with wisdom.

Basically, put up or shut up. If you have evidence linking him to the mayhem and that will stand up in a court of law, then arrest him and take him to court!

If you have no such evidence, then sit your @ss down and shut up.

All this innuendo and round-about techniques of trying to pin the mayhem on him are silly.

@EzeUche: I honestly don't care what other Yoruba (or Nigerians) think on this issue. It is a basic matter of principle. Innocent until proven guilty.
