Two critical bills before the National Assembly may not be passed if their promoters fail to make #2.5bn available to some members of the National Assembly,investigation by our correspondent has revealed.The bills are the Petroleum Industry Bill and the Sovereign wealth fund Bill. Our correspondent gathered from reliable sources in the Petroleum industry that some members of the National Assembly had demanded $10 to be paid upfront,from the promoters of the PIB,before it would be passed. It was learnt that the bill,which had been delayed since the draft was made available in 2009,was currently being given accelerated treatment because some agreements had been reached on the legislators demand. "This is what goes on in our democracy.I can assure that if the PIB will be passed before May 29,as has been said,it would have cost the authoritins $10m.Thats the price;its like a blackmail",a top official in the Petroleum industry,who asked not to be named because of the delicate nature of the matter,said.Continue here, http://odili.net/news/source/2011/may/10/827.html |
