Valentine Strasser was once the World's Youngest President, ruling Sierra Leone from 1992-1996.

He became the President at the age of 25, after he led a coup to unseat the then President Momoh .

He now lives in poverty, and stays with his mum in a dilapidated flat in Grafton.

He lives on a pension of $42 per month.

With waas in neighboring Liberia already eliminating Samuel Doe, it was only a matter of time before it gets to Liberia. The mineral resources of Sierra Leone were also enticing. Basically, he emerged at a very wrong time, otherwise he would have stayed much longer... Not doing well after governance is basically his fault. Read he started drinking and all that..

He should have visited Nigeria and get tutorials on how to rule a country and also secure your future even to the 4th generation.

This is a stale news.
A lot has changed for him since then.
He had a Peripheral Vascular Disease of the femoral artery secondary to an obstruction caused by a bullet that was lodged in his thigh during his military days this for which he was flown to Ghana courtesy of the current president Madda Bio who was his chief minister when he Captain Strasser was Head of State. He had a successful surgery done followed with rehabilitation and upon his return a month ago, the president built him a house as gift (from his personal income) and he's now been properly cared for. He also now has bodyguards as well and a source of income earning.
The problem was that the constitution doesn't make room for the welfare of former Head of state. It only caters for elected officials or those who who are constitutionally appointed as presidents,Vice etc.. Strasser became head of state through a coup d'etat in 1992.
