To creat new countries out of Nigeria with clear cut unambiguous borders that will be universally acceptable is not going to be easy, it will require mutual agreements among the neighbouring tribes to formalize.

1) Not all ethnic groups in Pre-1914 Nigeria formed nations.

2) The present classification of people living in this country as Hausa, Igbo, Urhobo ,Yoruba, Efik, etc were introduced by the British Colonial Masters as a way of grouping tribes that are close enough to be considered the same unit.
Many of these ethnic groups didn't have a central government, capital city with defined and permanent borders.
3) In Pre-colonial Nigeria,Kwarafa Empire, Sokoto Caliphate, Oyo Empire, Bini Empire, Ijebu Kingdom, Kanem-Borno Empire, Calabar Kingdom, Igala Kingdom may be considered Nations in their own right but it should not be misconstrued that these exactly fit into ethnic groups as well now classify peoples.

4) Even in present day Nigerians still engage in inter-tribal 'wars' to define tribal territories e.g Ezza/Ezzi peoples in Ebonyi State, Offa-Erinle and Share/Edu both in Kwara, Bolewa Vs KareKare over Fika-Potiskum in Yobe, Ijaw Vs Itsekiris over Warri, Ijaw Vs Ikwerres over Port-Harcourt, Jukun Vs Tiv over Wakari in Taraba State, Ijaw Vs Bini over Gelegele in Edo State etc.

5) Disagreement, fights and ever wars over boundaries is as old as man.

The modern boundaries of European countries were agreed upon with treaties signed usually after several years of wars which occurred over centuries of nation building.

Nations are set up to protect the interests of their people ,so if the people of Nigeria feel the country can't protect their interests, it's very appropriate to break Nigeria down into manageable countries.


However you need to understand that political and not necessarily cultural/tribal factors are the greatest determinants of who get which territories.

Except for small homogeneous nations, most countries are actually not homogeneous ethnic nations are you be assuming but these countries emerged from having a single political authority.
