The Prof. Was just being a paper presenter just like most of them who have never contributed to the practical solutions of the issues in the country. He was making a comparative analysis of the naira and the dollar, giving us hopeless hope that our naira is still strong and valuable. If #1 was compared to$1 in his analysis or at least #50-$1, we won't be feeling disappointed in him. Simply put, he was just trying to please his pay masters and anyone taking him serious is doing so at his own peril.

For those who hastily countered, insulted or disagreed with the Prof. I think you need to review the excerpt above from his propounds.
The man is making a fine case of comparative economics - juxtaposing the local value vs cross border value of a currency, such that only guys with a sound knowledge of {macroeconomics) economics can appreciate.

Even in neighbouring African nations, whose economies appeared not as buoyant as ours, you'd see the Naira is undervalued there. Talk of exchange rates in Niger and Benin republics...

Appreciate what?? We're talking about 1 and 500! Why would anyone expect to be able to use 1 in USA to achieve what 500 is used to achieve in Nigeria? 1 vs 500, haba!

This prof should rather talk about what #500 can do as against $500 and what $1 can do as against what #1 can do

$1 dollar equalling #500 means our currency is going valueless

Abi sey 500 and 1 are the same ?

Why is he talking about what 500# can do in Nigeria and when he gets to USA he mentioned $1??

All these people are slow pokes

So if $1 equivalent #3000 at the end of 2023 but because people might still be able to feed well with 3k naira , it still means naira is strong
Bless bless you for this

Can we argue without insults please? Present your facts as to why you don't agree? This man is an erudite professor with a PhD qualification of economics.

You just made me miss the days of yore when Nairaland used to have members who give intellectual perspectives to issues of nation building. Now, it's mostly uncouth and intolerant responses.
Only if you know that it doesn't cost you anything to be civil and that it actually builds up your character in life whether offline or online.

Why are we not comparing 500 naira to 500$?

It's their true character. Your true character is revealed at what you do when you believe no one is seeing you.
They think the privilege to use aliases as usernames hide them from being directly seen as having a horrible character but its not so. Their online activities and comments can be traced. For some of them ,it has already been traced and used to deny them of something while for some, their bigoted and toxic comments have been archived for use against them when it matters offline and online.
It's the way they are raised too. They grew up seeing adults around them bullying and verbally assaulting one another so they grew into it. Those who change today may still be able to salvage things but for some, it's already too late to save them the consequences of being reckless online. They're already labelled as uncouth , toxic and bigoted individuals. [/quote]

The fact this was an NTA interview devalues it as his thoughts would be biased to paint government in good light.

Also, he never mentioned the need for government to devalue the Naira at the official rate so as to close the gap with the parallel market which has been the prime problem. The CBN will also need to restart the sale of dollars to the BDC's
