The Independent National Electoral Commission will today hold an emergency security meeting in Abuja to take a final decision on the conduct of the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State.

There are fears that the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the state may hinder the conduct of the election. Political parties and candidates have reportedly suspended their campaigns owing to the worsening security situation in the state.

Director, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, Victor Ayodele Aluko, told reporters yesterday that the emergency Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security meeting would among others deliberate on the way forward.
Asked if the INEC was considering postponing the election as a result of the insecurity in the state, he said the answer would come after today’s meeting.

INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu had last Wednesday expressed fears over the worsening security challenges in the state.

However, politicians and residents of Anambra yesterday expressed hope that the election would hold as planned despite the security challenges in the state.

The director of media in the Andy Uba campaign council, Afam Ogene said the election would hold and the APC was prepared for it.

A director in the campaign organization of the APGA governorship candidate, Charles Soludo, Don Adinuba, said the insecurity would not affect the election.

Adinuba, who is also the Commissioner for Information in the state, said the government was putting measures in place to ensure peaceful conduct of the election.

Similarly, the publicity secretary of the PDP in the state, Nnamdi Nwangwu, said the party was hopeful that the election would hold and was preparing for it.

A resident of Awka, Philip Obasi, said that though there were concerns, the election would go as scheduled.

But Miss. Ngozi Uche, another resident, doubted that the election would hold as non-state actors “continue to decide when people come out and go in.”

The vice president of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Ogene-Okeke, urged the federal and state governments to give the citizens hope of safety.

“Security is the duty of the federal and state governments. They should do the needful by providing security to the people. Nobody is happy that people are being killed every day unchecked. Killing is killing either in Anambra or Zamfara,” he said.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the security challenges in the country

The Commissioner of Police, Tony Olofu, charged his personnel to be firm and resolute inmtaking the battle to the doorstep of the attackers.

It will be foolish to hold elections in the midst of such glaring security challenges. INEC that cannot even conduct free and fair elections in a quiet street.

The trajectory of the IPOB is akin to a cruising ship without a captain, and the consequences is dire.

IPOB cannot achieve sovereignty on a platter of gold nor through violence, but through Soft Sell, their agitation will bear positive fruits.

Through democratic process, a lot can be achieved for IPOB, a whole lot.
It is in the interest of IPOB to participate and ensure that garner enough social and political capital.

Election is closer, Maduka and Soludo are closer to the people because “They needed the Vote”.

More than half of Nigerian labor force is unemployed or underemployed according to a Bloomberg report

The lackadaisical and clueless direction of this present administration has sunk our economic ship deeper, and regrettably no recourse is insight unless the status quo is disrupted.

Like wages, Loyalty is earned, and the latter, though earned , sometimes can be beyond costs.

Two types of loyalty exist according to my classification; induced and reciprocated loyalty.

I’ll give two glaring examples.

Reciprocated Loyalty!

Pastor Rapu aptly captures the loyalty of his admirers through his numerous life changing encounters, pastor Rapu provides lifetime benefits. This kind of loyalty though social, can be translated to political capital, and if scaled, is a deafening political roar because of the inherent multiplier effect.

Induced Loyalty!

Our democratic scenery aptly captures this category, and one character whose pendulum of existence swings on this principle of loyalty is FFK.

The consequences of obtaining this kind of loyalty has far reaching consequences and no multiplier effect.

A sizeable number of the unemployed or underemployed can be catered for through novelty, and naturally the principle of reciprocity comes in play.

This goes beyond buying bikes and tractors as palliatives or empowerment as prevalent in our polity.

To change our sordid narrative, we must collectively be able to say “NO” to politicians Trojan horses and to say “NO” a thriving economic environment must be ensured.

This is not achievable under this present government, but highly probable with the “Pastor Rapu’s Effect”.

I know how to achieve this on a larger scale.

The killing rate is high, yet INEC and govt is still deliberating about election, it's so saddened Govt is acting nonchalant about the current situation of the state...

Election should postpone, let govt settle insecurity in the State first.

Hence more innocent blood will be shared in the state...

Oh Lord Let peace reign in Anambra state, Let those carrying out evil agenda be brought to book...

No election in the holy Land of Biafra are you people deaf?

Over 61 years of voting no 24 hours electricity in any part of Igbo land, no roads, no schools, no empowerment, no jobs, no multi-national companies to employ fresh graduate, no hospitals... etc, all the politicians campaigning for elections here and there, none of their children is schooling here in the east.

After you struggle to graduate with all the strike and abnormally high tution fees, you end up driving Keke on bad roads just to make ends meet what kind of useless life is that?

There will be no elections in the south east.

This I have seen.

No singular tribe has the monopoly of violence. Over the years, the Igbos have come to the perfect understanding that the only form of agitation that the Government at the center responds to, is violence.

With decades of anger emanating from marginalization, they are resolved to get the freedom they yearn for.

At the moment, they Government still believe they have matters under control, which is likely not so.

Politicians would want to go ahead with the elections, but it will not be without collateral damages that may include the lost of lives.

Election will not hold in Anambra. Buhari should as a matter of urgency appoint ME or any of MY Brothers from the North, to serve as the Administrator of Anambra State, at the expiration of Willi Obiano's tenure. grin grin

Best thing would be to postpone the Anambra elections. The state is too hot for elections for now. Unless the FG is willing to militarize the entire state throughout the process, to forestall UGM attacks on electoral officers because it's certain they'll be attacked.

Anambra State that was calm, compared to other Eastern states just 2 months ago. A month to elections everywhere scatter...

Much of the ever increasing state of lawlessness and the scary height of insecurity across the country, can be traced to the negligence and intentional inactions of this government over time.

Anyway, no one lives forever, rich or poor, leader or the led, bandit or clergyman, the aged or infants, etc...
Life itself is a script, once the bus gets to your own bus stop, you MUST get off the bus, whether you like or not.

May God Almighty heal our land.

If there's a no election in Anambra state then it'll become simple to install a military administrator after the expiration of Obiano's tenure.

Nature itself abhors vacuum so the 'principle of necessity' will be activated.
The military administrator will stabilize the state and ensure a conduct of election within 6months - 1 year.

If this is done and APC wins then many will say na rigging with military!

Unless APC loses with the militarisation...
