There was so much celebration across the 23 local government of Rivers State by the Rivers youth when the Act for the Establishment of the Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps agency was ceremonially signed into law by Wike, the Governor of Rivers State. However, there has been a serious concern about the failure of the Rivers State Government to be concerned about the job security of engaged Rivers State Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

With so much fear because of the insecurity of the job, members of the Corps have been lamenting and expressing disappoinment secretly about the attitude of the Rivers State government towards the status of their engagement eight months after.

There is no how this young people can be patrotic to do this job when their welfares mean nothing to the government. That is the danger.

It also amazes Rivers youth how the hastily signed act failed to address the issue of welfare and social security of the job eight months after engagement.

As a matter of fact, our investigation shows that the 1,150 youths engaged have not been given appointment letters let alone paid eight months after their commissioning by the agency of government.

This shows the high level of insensitivity of the government of Rivers State about the security of lives and property which is the primary responsibility of every responsible government.The effective performance of this pertinent responsibility depends on government delibrate programs and the political will to implement them.
This issue is burning and if not addressed urgently portends serious security risk in the state.

If the security of lives and property are treated with levity, then something is wrong somewhere within the leadership of a State like Rivers. No responsible government treats the issue of security the way we do in this part of the world.
With this development, the youths are so worried and doubt if there is the place of youth in the New Rivers Vision of the Wike led government.

Worried by this development and as a concerned Rivers youth, I appeal to the Rivers State government to as a matter of urgency address this issue and also come up with delibrate programs for positive youth engagement in his development agenda even when we know he has less than two years in office.

With so much potentials, young people remain the sure hope of our dear Rivers State. Creating an enabling environment for them will encourage youth participation and sustainable development.

The only thing that works well in this country is 'Time'.
