#EndSARS: Nigerians Will Not End Agitation Until FG Addresses Insecurity, Unemployment - Eleka

... says incessant protests sign of failed government

A chieftain of the PDP and the former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State has urged Buhari's government to address the underpinning issues that led to the nationwide EndSars protest in October last year, stressing that uproar across the country will persist if the government turns deaf ears to the demands of the protesters.

In a statement released by Prof. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka through his Media Aide, Eleka said since Nigeria was a product of negotiation, and a compartment of different ethnic groups, leaders should show more interest in a peaceful resolution to crises than coercion of protesters.

In his words: "It is a year that some youths took to the street massively to condemn the excesses of Nigeria Security Agencies most especially the SARS on innocent Nigerians. Their agitation to demand proactive governance that will be of immense value to all Nigerians should be addressed.

"We have seen in various countries in the Middle East how uprising led to change of government on a large scale of frustration of citizens and spurious governmental policies, which had negative effect on their economy and socio-political system. Of course, every state is enmeshed in her peculiarities; the Nigerian government should address the tremendous increase in inflation and unemployment in the country.

"Within the last 6 years of All Progressive Congress under the leadership of President Buhari, Nigeria had witnessed agitations, ranging from Yoruba Nation protest, IPOB and even threat from the North to secede from Nigeria. All these put together are testaments to a fragile government in power, coupled with a party that is totally alien to Nigerians.

"As we remember those who were brutally incarcerated by the Nigerian Security today, it is a call to the federal government to address the spate of insecurity in Nigeria, dwindling economy, high rate of unemployment and uncontrollable inflation of goods within the last 6 years."

Eleka concluded that Nigerians will never forget the EndSars protest in the history of the nation.
