The argument that the money earmarked for defense is small may be through given the high of criminal activities going on in the country combined with raising concerns of violent nationalist agiatations.

However, one will be bemused that a fraction the 'small' will still be looted or managed (in conservative term).

In furtherance, even with all the money being allotted by previous Government, it seems the conspiracy theorists (on using the continued spate of insecurity to make sure defense gets more and probably loot it) are being proved right.

Same is happening in the global North too. Anyways, for us down global South, any public officer who loots the defense treasury is a terrorist himself. From Ihejirika to Buratai and the in betweeners, these defense guys have shown the definition of corruption in the defense sector.

Nothing is too small for the defense sector giving the current economic malady of the country. Except these guys don't want to work. They should go and manage it like that.

This is why they don't want terrorism and banditry to stop because it's a means of cashing out. We shouldn't expect terrorism to reduce in Nigeria because those cashing out from it will never want their source of unholy cash flow to cease.

kettykin:
It has now gotten to the point where the budget needed to keep Nigeria as a United, indivisible country now surpasses the internally generated revenue of all member states aside the federal capital and Lagos.

My take from this is that one Nigeria is a very very expensive project and will require very huge capital outlay to sustain when the oil era is over.

Your head de there.

True federalism will solve a lot of the agitations.

Is it not glaring that these guys and some invisible entities are making hell of money from this so called fight with insurgents and bandits ? The more reason they wouldn't want these carnage to end. They'd rather keep fueling it.

God's judgement is where it will all end.

I’m so disappointed in the Nigerian military...they don’t even want to produce anything...ordinary rifle they can’t produce...most countries are trying to be self sufficient in their military affairs but ours are just stuck in one place

With nothing to show at the end of the day??

I believe this whole terrorism and bandits thing is a well planned out scheme working to the advantage of a few and they are in or close to the government itself.

God bless you!
This is exactly what we've been saying.

Keeping Nigeria one is too expensive. Lives are being wasted daily while our very limited resources get frittered away so recklessly just to sustain a union that looks bound to crash eventually.

They cant find anyone except civilians they want to tell shut up to while their resources are being stolen.

They were not designed to fight other groups without international help but to ensure resources are looted for companies around the world.

Lol...oil prices are reaching it peak.. Selling at over $84..something that was $44 in 2015...
Oil can not go the of coal..it only ignorant people that say such
horsepower102:

You are thinking right.

One Nigeria protection is getting expensive at a time oil is about to go the way of coal.

Where will money come from in the future.

The current situation is unsustainable for Nigeria and you all know it.

Once oil prices crash in the coming years, you will realize that there won’t be any funds to sustain the military. That’s when Nigeria will be on its knees.

It's high time the accounts and operations of the NA undergoes strict forensic audit. With all the monies given them through the budget to combat this issue we have not seen any improvement.
If they give that money to one vigilante outfit they will remove all those bandits and unknown gun men troubling th communities.
