Usain Bolt is the world fastest man. He has attained an unforgettable feat of beating his previous world record in I00 meters and 200 meters at the 2009 world championship. His time of 9.58 seconds and 19.9seconds in 100 and 200 meters events respectively, can still be surpassed by 27 year old self that is far from his athletic prime.

Experts and athletic aficionados label the uncharacteristic attributes of Usain Bolt, as inconsistent with the makings of an ideal sprinter. Therefore Bolt is regarded as a misnomer. He is 6.6 feet tall with long slender muscles; a physique fit for a high or long jumper and long distance runner. His limps are more suitable to aid leaps and endurance but not high energy expense that a stout and robustly muscular athlete possesses. Bolt is a bad starter off his marks. Also his strides are defective; every sprinter runs with a knife shaped palm to tear through the air but he runs with a clenched fist. Furthermore, a sprinter runs with his head firmly fixed in between his shoulders. This is because the head is the heaviest part of the body and the negligence of positioning the head, via muscular contraction of the neck muscles can be costly. However Bolt unapologetically flaunts this invaluable technique, as his head dances from side to side in his run. This should cause disequilibrium of his body weight and awkwardness against air or wind. Usain Bolt is not an athlete; he is an exceptionally gifted runner.

One can’t help but draw a similarity between the God given talents of Bolt, against the long existing norms of athletics and the God fashioned path of Mr. President, against the political fray and realities in Nigeria. The first time a minority Nigerian politician runs in a general election, as the flag bearer in his political career; it is at the Presidential elections. Meteoric has a whole new meaning with GEJ. Born into poverty, unproven history with the political demi gods and deficient in a captivating demeanor Dr. Goodluck Jonathan is an exceptionally lucky politician.

However, wise athletic coaches are not looking for the next Usain Bolt .Therefore Nigeria should not get engrossed with the exceptional fairy tale rise of Mr. President. Bolt and Jonathan are mythical cousins we marvel at but in the real world the rule is clearer than the exception. There might almost be another Bolt or Jonathan but there will always be athletics and Nigeria. Wise Nigerians will see beyond the dancing on the yellow brick road and pine after the existing deplorable Benin Ore road for one. This is especially going out to our beloved Ijaw and Niger Delta brothers and sisters- the south west claim Obj had nothing to do with them. Let’s make the golden rule of true governance count and not exceptions.
