Funny! We are even closer to Igbo than Yoruba. Infact, some Urhobo clans trace parts of their origin to Igboland.

You said some clan, no issues on that, base on my observations, names and some title of chiefs very similar with that of Yoruba while Urhobo traditional dresses different with Yoruba.

You are the one that should be expanding yours nau. If it was a Hausa person typine maigida or Igbo typing Ebubedike would you have ascribed that to some Nollywood movie where Pete Edochie's character was been hailed?

Examples. I know that Yoruba also call some Chiefs Olorogun but the pronunciation and meanings are completely different. The title of this Chief is Onoriode r'Ovie. Olorogun is not his title.

[quote author=ogechchukwu post=107787220][Mental Revolution

1 . When a French national cannot speak English, Africans respect him.

2 . When a Spanish man can't speak English, Africans respect him.

3 . When a Chinese man can't speak English, Africans respect him.

4 . When a Russian man can't speak English, Africans respect him.

5 . When a Portuguese man can't speak English, Africans respect him.

6 . But when an African man can't speak English Africans consider him a joke, illiterate, dumb and stupid

That's the level or extent of damage we have suffered as a people.

We use English as a yardstick to measure the intelligence of our people, including children.

In our schools, children are made to believe they're stupid just because they cannot speak a language alien to their ancestral route.

Africans referred their language as VERNACULAR - what a Shame?

Dear Africans, put an end to this mental slavery.
Teach your children their mother tongue and allow the locals to feel free in speaking their native language without any stigma.

Do not help the oppressors to extend their oppression.

If you come across this post, share widely to spread this message and enlighten an African.

The people around you need to hear this.

It's a collective effort.

I agree with the post to an extent, but disagree with it because English happens to be the language we were educated with....and it supposes that if you don't have It's mastery, it is presumed that you couldn't have learnt much.
We should FIRST TEACH in our INDIGENOUS LANGUAGES like the NATIONALS you gave examples with, before seeking such parity.
My thoughts though.

Contrary to popular belief, not all urhobos were of Bini origin. Example, some Ughelli communities have Ijaw ancestors, Some okpes could have a blend of the earlier ijebu migrants that settled in Omadino (but they generally claim their ancestors were from Ife which is very doubtable), the Oroguns could also have a blend of Igbo ancestors.

Migration of old was just inevitable, You won't even believe Olukumi, an Igboid community in Delta state were of Ondo ancestry. Bini also got ancestors from Igbo and Yoruba. Kiagbodo and other western Ijaw territory were mostly a blend of Urhobo and Ijaw.

I will be doing a detailed thread on the migration of several urhobo clans later. Omamurhiọke oniovo.

You are right, OLOROGUN isn't his title, besides, OLOROGUN was recently accepted in urhobo land because of the influence of Ibru.
