Ex-Bayelsa State Gov. Diepriye Alamieyeseigha has bagged 2 Years Imprisonment for Corrupt Enrichment and Money Laundering.

Earlier Chief Alamieyeseigha, has this morning entered into a plea bargaining with officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and pleaded guilty to an amended six-count charge of money laundering.

Following this, the former governor is to forfeit all his money and assets pleaded in the charge by the EFCC.

Plea bargaining is a legal arrangement whereby an accused agrees with the prosecutor to plead guilty in consideration of a lighter sentence.

The former governor’s travails began when he was arrested at the Heathrow Airport United Kingdom in 2005 in connection with allegations of money laundering.

He was arraigned in a London court and later granted bail. He jumped bail and escaped to Nigeria where he was later impeached by the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

He was immediately arrested by EFCC officials and dragged to court to face trial.
