There were just two Igbo states then, and Zik was the presidential candidate of one of the parties. Ask yourself how many Yoruba states voted for Zik also?

Yorubas had four states to play around with, in 1979, but did not see it fit to give ZIk even one single state, especially as Zik could only rely on a paltry pair of Igbo states.
Bendel ( Edo and Delta) voted Awolowo. Why didn't they vote for Zik?..

In 1979, everyone aligned with the leaders of their respective region. In 1993, between the North and the South, ibos betrayed the South... simple!

My analysis South east gave 47% of the votes to, a Muslim-Muslim ticket, in an election a SE son was a VP to a major contender in Tofa.

That means the SE are liberal!

Can Yorubas show us a presidential election, where they gave an Igbo presidential candidate or VP , 48% of the elections casted in SW while ignoring a Yoruba VP or president involved in same election?

For emphasis.

Zik was a presidential candidate in 1979 and 1983
And Ekwueme was the VP to Shagari in 1979 and 1983!
How many percentage of votes did Yorubas give these Igbo men?

Chuba Okadigbo was the VP to Buhari in 2003 and Ume-Ezeoka was Buhari VP in 2007!
How many percentage of votes did SW give these two Igbos?

How can Yorubas accuse Ndiigbo of things they are guilty of.
They cry that our 48% given to Abiola was too small, but they have never given an Igbo VP or presidential candidate up to 15% of votes cast in SW!

Isn't this hypocrisy!
The highlighted is untrue. Like it's a glaring lie.

Atiku/Obi ticket won 2 states in the SW region. Despite a Yoruba man being on the opposing ballot.

Nothing beats honesty.

Spinning tales and calling us evil won’t change the truth. MKO lost in 3 out of the 4 Igbo states. Now, let’s imagine an election between Okonjo Iweala and Aminu Masari. How will you feel if Masari wins in 5 out of the 6 south west states? Crazy right? Yeah, that was exactly what happened in 1993.

To understand how silly the decision of you Igbos to vote against MKO was, Kano, the home state of Tofa voted massively for MKO. I mean, over 60% of Kano voters voted for MKO while he couldn’t get 50% in the south east. It is indefensible. It was the height of southern betrayal and we shall never forget.

You can never forget what, have you paid us back for voting OBJ?Which Igbo candidate have Yoruba ever voted for?
Still crying for an election IBB made invalid.

Often have we heard Yorubas parrot the line that Igbos didn't vote for Abiola in the ill-fated 1993 presidential Election.
As is often the case, lies when repeated often enough start taking the veneer of the truth.
For this reason was this thread birthed, with the sole aim to separate facts from fictions, truth from calumny and to set the record straight!

The 1993 presidential election was between Tofa of NRC and Abiola of SDP , Tofa had an Igbo from present Abia state
named Ugoh Sylvester as the VP, while Abiola had a Northerner from Kanuri tribe of Borno named Knigbe Baba Gana as the VP.

The SE at this point in history had 4 states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo, Ebonyi was not in existence then.

And below is the statistical analysis of how Igbos voted.

State. Abiola. Tofa

Abia 105,273 151,227
Anambra 212,024 159,258
Enugu 263,101 284,050
Imo 159,350 195,836

Total. 739,748 790,371
% Vote 48.35%. 51.65%

From the stats above. Abiola got 48.35% of the total votes for a presidential election where an Igbo was a VP to a major candidate!

Abiola even won Anambra state outrightly, and in Abia where the VP to Tofa was from, he got over 40% of the votes casted.

Kudos grin this is a thorough dismantling of propaganda that was allowed to fester for too long. Next to be demolished soon is the wicked propaganda that Igbos did not fight for the actualization of Abiola's mandate when IBB annulled it

Exactly what I am saying. I am shocked he even got the amount of vote that he got. If you listen to Yoruba propaganda, you would think Abiola didn’t get upto 10% from Igbos.

Mind you yorubas have never given igbo presidential or VP candidate upto 15% of their vote throughout the existence of Nigeria. Yet they are accusing Igbos who gave their disrespectful candidate Abiola almost 50% and obasanjo who won twice.

they forgot abt obasanjo who won in all d eastern states twice in a general election. maybe obasanjo is from anambra state. their propaganda is dead on arrival.

So it's two and not there.
And I'm not sure that the percentage was up to 48% in SW.

Awolowo contestested with and Igbo man, while zik went with the north but Igbo's chose the northern coalition against southern one.

Now buhari won we cannot rest, we're now the betrayal lol.

North endorse obasanjo and southwest endorse olu falai but Igbo together with the north voted obsanjo against southwest .

From the information provided by igboid, I can infer that Abiola could have easily won the East if he didn’t tell igbos that he didn’t need their vote.

Abiola shot himself in the foot yet yorubas later blamed Igbos whom he openly disrespected.

The level of dishonesty from yorubas is scary sometimes.

OP, what exactly is your point? Abiola lost in 3 out of the 4 SE states so what are you trying to say?

In a contest between a very well educated, popular and philanthropist from the south and a relatively unknown politician from the north, we expect all southern states to deliver nothing less than 80% of the total vote cast to the southern candidate.

You voted against MKO out of hatred and jealousy for the Yoruba race. Own your shit and stop looking for excuses all over the place.

The part in bold has clearly exposed your hypocrisy. It was okay for Igbos to give all their states to ZIK against Awolowo/Umeadi but bad for Yorubas to give all their states to MKO against Tofa/Ugoh.

What’s wrong with Igbos giving one state to ZIK and the other to Awolowo/Umeadi? What’s wrong with Igbos supporting an all Southern ticket? At least, you can’t blame the Yorubas for not voting ZIK because his running mate, Ishaya Audu was a northerner. If ZIK’s running mate was a southerner, he would have won at least a Yoruba state.

Awolowo had an Igbo running mate and you couldn’t spare him one Igbo state but you want Yorubas to vote for Tofa/Ugoh against MKO. I’m sure you can now see how silly and illogical your argument sounds. You have only exposed your hypocrisy.

All you are really trying to tell me is that no Yoruba state has ever voted for any Igbo person.

But I remember that Igbos of Anambra voted for Abiola.
Now, when you get to 1999, all the Igbo states voted for Obasanjo who is a Yoruba man
In 2003 yet again, all the Igbo states voted for Obasanjo.

So on 11 occasions, Igbo states have voted for a Yoruba man in1979, 1999 and 2003, out of a possible 12 Igbo states. (1979 2 states) ( 1999 5states) (2003 5 states).

For for the Yorubas, in 1979, 1999 and 2003, out of a possible 16 states, not one single Yoruba state has ever voted for an Igbo presidential candidate. Zilch.

This proves what we have been saying all along. Yoruba hearts are as ugly as their faces.
