No strong opposition. That Senate needs a Saraki to muster a protest against president's decline to sign the electoral amendment bill. |

festacman: Why are you trying to justify Buhari's action that is unwise and benighted. Primary election should be for all the members of that party and not for some. If Buhari wants to cut cost he should begin with himself and ministries under him. Gone are days when Nigerians believe this kind of trash. |

slivertongue:Bless you bro. People please think about this properly. The parties have never planned for direct prmaries neither has INEC. It is practically the same as running multiple presidentiaal elections. The opportunities for litigation, cheating, violence....are numerous. I truly believe direct primaries are actually a RISK to our democracy. The National assembly should removed the direct primary clause from the bill, and forward it back to the President for signing. 1 Like |

festacman: They stylishly accepted Electronic Transmission and used the Direct Primaries (their plan B) ploy to kill the Electoral Bill. No government in power supports any move (not favourable to it) that counters its rigging machinery. Thats simply what electronic transmission of votes would have done, hence, their plan B. |

Well it didn’t actually make sense…how many parties even have the resources to conduct direct primaries apart from pdp and APC |

ThatFairGuy1: I doubt if this was your stand a week ago. I know one Facebook character whose handle name is Ayekooto. He was always calling for the bill to be signed cos of the direct primary clause in it that would favour his interest. When the news of buhari declining assent came up, rather than criticize the president he started attacking wike for saying NASS is too weak to veto the president. Try and be consistent sir |

Well, we might agree to the bill at inception due to its democratic form but considering the cost which was not holistically considered then, WE SHOULD LET GO FOR NOW. We don't have enough to waste. You're also aware of this sir. Can Nigeria truly adopt that processes and won't feel it Vistra40: |

ThatFairGuy1:I don't like answering questions with questions but I think I need to do that tonight. Is mode of primaries the only clause in the electoral amendment bill? What stops the president from assenting it, then push for an amendment of the clause on mode of primaries? Are you aware that the president assented the PIGB and pushed for an amendment of certain clauses almost immediately? Lastly, what is the cost of option A4 direct primaries? |
