Wetin concern me. I only get to drink all these soft drinks in weddings and parties. But buying with my money is a no no for me except I am buying it for someone else's consumption.

The funny thing is that most of the people bashing this decision are the same people who would complain about 'loans' government takes.

Well, our tax to gdp ratio is low, and the only way to raise revenue is by rasing the tax to gdp ratio...and a sugar drinks tax is the way to go.

We better wake up to reality. Either we take more loans, or we get creative and raise the money

Plus , soft drinks cause a lot of health problems, like obesity, diabetes etc...which put a strain on government and your pocket.

Infact, I was in one remote Northern village years ago(research project), and asked where I could buy a bottle of coke...and was directed to the village soft drinks shop...where the drinks were kept in a 'local refrigerator' (contraption made of clay that keeps things cool)

Some of the soft drinks giants like coca cola have bottling factories up North.

It's because some of you haven't seen the complications of diabetes, like kidney disease, eye problems, leg problems, chronic pain, etc etc...which cost government a lot of money to treat (yes, healthcare is subsidized in this country...it's why your bills are not in the millions of naira like in the USA, and we have insurance , limited, but there)

Chronic illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, obesity, etc, cost governments the world over a lot of money, and not just healthcare money...a person admitted in hospital with complications of diabetes is a worker not producing...money gone.

Let us drink more of water. The purest wine.

Even for the regime... This is a new low. 2023 will be akin to the day isrealites left Egypt for Nigerians.
