Presidential Amnesty Programme Is Over - Ceo by Seun(m): 6:52am On Jun 21, 2011
Hon Kingsley Kuku: By midnight of October 4, 2009, we recorded 20,192 that disarmed and accepted amnesty. From the agitation of others 6,166 were added. We are talking about 26,358 recipients of amnesty as proclaimed by Mr. President.

“Of course, we all know that certain agitations are going on all over the country, even in the Niger Delta, there are people talking of third phase, fourth phase. You know these things will not end but the government has taken a position and the position is very clear.

There is nothing like third phase in this amnesty. There is nothing like fourth phase in this amnesty because if we have a third phase and a fourth phase, there will be a sixth phase and a tenth phase and it will never end. So we will never accept this. This amnesty programme has ended.

“Let me make this very clear that the current amnesty programme is actually a solution by this country under our beloved late President Umaru Yar’Adua and his then Vice President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, who is today the president of this country, working together, proclaimed amnesty to ensure peace in the Niger Delta. It is a special programme.

That programe can never be politicised. It can never be mixed up with any other issue at all. It is a special programme meant to address a special problem. That has been done.

Using our tax money to placate criminals and thwart justice to ordinary Nigerians!

I long for the day when this cadre of cowards grow the testicles required to actually solve crime related problems and bring criminals to justice instead of attempting to throw wads of cash at them.

After the hare-brained 'Amnesty' offer to the murderous Boko haram, anyone still chanting that 'Fresh Air' mantra has to be a m'oron!

How much tax do you pay, the proceeds from Niger-delta was what was re-invested into empowering people from that area because they have been neglected over time.
You must living in the moon not to know that Niger-deltans have been subjugated throughout our common history as Nigerians. Left alone to me, there should be a special fund set aside for the education of the Niger-delta region considering the value their lands put on the table for the entire country.

does this also justify the #4 billion found in Tompolo's account ? Thugs are paid 65k monthly for doing nothing, yet some other ND youths are suffering.

The amnesty was introduced to placate the 'boyz' increase oil production & begin revamping of the Niger-Delta in earnest. So far only the boyz, the oyel companies & the Abuja fat cats seem to be benefiting from the Amnesty. The Niger Deltans aren't faring any better & it doesn't look like their luck is about to change anytime soon

hell will first freeze over.
why do they need to grow balls when the status quo favours them.
the change we need can only be externally enforced.
it will never be internally generated.
these clowns are set in their ways and profit from it.

Oil is still spilling on a daily basis and so is gas flaring while the so called agitators now smile to the banks.

In the first place, the amnesty programme was wrong as the people of Niger Delta are the ones to give this contraption called Nigeria amnesty for cheating us for over 50years. However, since some elements within Niger Delta took to illegality by kidnapping innocent ones and the series of battle within the creeks and villages leading to colossal loss of human lives, properties and cut in oil production(by 50%), the amnesty or whatever name that was appropriate for it was only a device to bring peace and let the oil flow-whether it can be sustained is a debate for another topic.
For those calling for the scrap you do not mean well for the people of ND. In as much as we need development, we need peace for it to happen. The Niger Delta ministry via NDDC is already awarding oversea scholarships/ skill acquisition to non-militant youths from ND. Certainly not enough to cover the teeming unemployed youths but a step in the right direction. That amnesty was over is no news, just that some persons are still wishing to join knowing that some have benefitted immensely in terms of exposure and freedom to enjoy their oil bunkering money without playing hide and sick.
Re: Presidential Amnesty Programme Is Over - Ceo by Nobody: 9:38am On Jun 21, 2011
I have always maintained that the amnesty programme is a shortrun solution to a longtime problem. Truth of the matter is that criminals whom the govt unknowingly produced due to years of neglect, shortsightedness and selfish leadership were bribed to drop their arms while the major problem was neglected. like someone rightly said its a abeg let the oil flow solution. The major problem hasn't been solved and all we have as usual is a firebrigade approach just because some western nation are hailing it as the right approach does not make it right.

The average Nigerdeltan youth, how much have they gained from the amnesty programme? perhaps peace?

For government to deliver the dividends of democracy, there has to be peace. Recall that the EAST-WEST road was awarded the same time with ZUBA- KD express and the later has since been completed because of peace while the former is still in limbo.

The amnesty program was design to pacify the youths so that development will come. If you say they are paid 65k for not doing anything, good for them, at least they are being paid for the accumulated sufferings they've had since the origin exploration from their land. After all they just started earning the pay while they have suffered for years

If you are aggrieved, tell me what the Yorubas when the country was relying on cocoa? Free Education abroad,
