Exactly As the crude oil price rises so does the subsidy cost, and drain on our revenue Which was what GEJ was trying to tell nigerians 10 years ago. Too bad we didn't listen..( some of us did though, including some of his opponents. But we are in the minority) Subsidy is a monster that eats and eats money..even when well managed |

wonder233: The sad part of this construct is that the APC supporters at the grassroot are all suffering from the hardship their party has brought on the nation. The elites of the party sponsor criminal minds to type comments online and sway public opinion. The hotest part of hell is waiting for the APC miscreants. |

backbencher: @emboldened, the APC told Nigerians that there was nothing like subsidy and that oil should sell at #45/L. Tam David West and other deluded souls used the movie industry, church leaders, and professors to convince the people that the PDP never paid subsidy. Today Nigerians can see that they have been deceived by the most corrupt minds among us |

ugonology: If the country was run any better we wont even need to import fuel talkless of pay subsidy...we will have efficient govt run refineries that will refine our crude at reasonable cost...(enough to take care of the refinery's operations and ammortized machinery cost). The increase in price of crude will be a plus to us and not a curse because we have to import refined fuel which was made using internationally sourced crude in some foreign land!!! The sustainable solution is to refine our own crude by our govt(not capitalistic individuals) to the tune we need to support our domestic consumption while capitalistic refineries focus on exporting whatever they refine...subsidy removal is like transferring the problem to the masses who will still have to pay for the inefficiencies surrounding the importation of fuel when crude is at our backyard. Speaking about ASUU and education, in countries whre Govt dont subsidise, they make up for it via grants and easily accessible student loans...rich individuals also give endowments that poor but brillant students can gain from....I agree this si what govt should pursue, through partnership with private sector 2 Likes |

An increase in oil prices should only spell more money for us since we are a major exporter. This will only work if we refine our own (at least, the one we consume locally). Fingers crossed, waiting for Dangote refinery. |

Ovaltine: And if you are Dangote, will you sell less than the international best prices for refined products cos the crude u are using is in the backyard? when you are in business to make profit?....Govt is ceding his responsibility to capitalist individuals under the guise of corruption not making it possible for them to create and manage state-owned refineries!!!....who is govt, who are the corrupt people?...isnt it one and same 1 Like |

I said it elsewhere on Nairaland that whatever happens to oil price always means troubles for the ordinary Nigerians because our economy is run by monkeys. Oil price reduces: Nigerian government would say we are not making money, we have to borrow to run the government. No money for recurring and capital expenditures. Oil price increases: Nigerian government will say they don't have money to run the government and must borrow to import and subsidize oil, so there's no money to do other things. It is the paradox of our followership in Nigeria. 3 Likes |

I noticed that nairaland had few threads on the oil price, which was strange given one of the regular APC excuses was that with oil prices being so low they had less funds than the previous administration under GEJ. Now the oil price is above $100 like in GEJ's time, all we hear are excuses. In fact they are now claiming greater subsidies are required for the same oil prices GEJs govt managed without any hassle.. Ditto Dangote's heavily govt subsidised refineries. His excuse was that it wouldn't be profitable unless oil was above $90. So what is the excuse now? Especially given the fact that the west no longer wants dependence on Russian oil and gas. Ditto, Gas Nigeria does export some LNG, likewise gas prices are through the roof.. These old Arewa men in power take us for fools. Vote in another Northerner at your peril.. Be aware I have no time for Tinubu either, so we need another younger presidential candidate from the South free from Arewa sympathies.. 2 Likes |

Very useless and totally non competent leaders. If oil price goes down, they will say they they are running at a loss. . So they start taxing citizens and increasing fares. . If oil prices goes up,.they say subsidy has increased and start crying again. What kind of confused slay queens do we have as leaders. And mind you, they will not do 1 single meeting on how to create refineries. Vote APC further at your own peril. 1 Like |

ugonology:Did you go to school at all ? You think capitalism is only way to run a country ? If you don't subsidize then you actually handing your citizens to corporation for milking . A growing economy need industries and subsidies if not you run your country to become an imperial state ...very rich few and very poor many Subsidy is not the issue ... What should govt do ? 1. Priotise projects 2.cut down coat of governance 3. Make use of available resources to build industries 4. Encourage export by providing conducive environment for business 5. Encourage FDI by lower tax We can go on and on .... What we do currently is revenue draining And is the cause of revenue loss..where Government sell crude and import refined fuels .it's absolute madness .it is a recipe for disaster in any angle I was hoping Buhari by 2015 wil prioritise building mid size refineries to solve and abolish our dependence on importation of refined crude . This will also create wealth , earn government foreign exchange and reduce pressure on the Naira . Now we are waiting for Dangote which in a sense is wrong as you are ultimately placing your citizens welfare in hands of one man. we should have as many refineries as possible . That way there is competition that can lower prices Instead of borrowing money to bud rails , it should have been used to build refineries... Rail is not an immediate need 3 Likes |

Regime apologist. If you're not delusional then you will know what you just wrote is totally off point. The official price of fuel is still 165, but it is not available which causes the long queues and black markets and black markets sell exorbitantly. Or in your delusion, are you saying there is no scarcity, that people just want to throw their money away to black marketers? Some of you regime apologists are now hallucinating. Look at what this one is saying? seunmsg: 2 Likes |

He wasn't lying. The problem is your lack of comprehension maybe in a bid to hastily respond in anger. He said, 'if you have been buying fuel at 1k'. He didn't say fuel is been sold for 1k or that people are buying it for 1k per litre. In other word, someone who has been buying fuel for 1k during a scarcity will happily accept without complaining if s/he is offered petrol at #250. seunmsg: |
