2022 Primaries: Will The APC National Delegates Get It Right? by hnm2023: 5:21pm On Apr 04, 2022
As the journey to the 2023 presidential polls takes off, all eyes are on the party delegates and the choices they will make on who flies the flags of their respective parties. If there is one party people expect to get it right, it is the All Progressives Congress, APC. This is as a result of the fact that it is the ruling party that should avoid any mistakes that would cause it to lose the presidency it fought very hard to get in 2015.

Over the past three years, the governing party, the APC, has been in the eye of the storm, jumping from one crisis to another. From the Oshiomhole-must-go crisis to its loss of Zamfara, the party hardly knew peace until its last national convention. That the party managed to organize a peaceful and rancour-free convention against all odds, is a testimony to the fact that it can still get things right, even though there are crises in some state chapters of the party. These crises, if not resolved fast, will affect the chances of the party in the affected states, as was experienced recently in Anambra State where some party leaders worked against the interest of the party in the governorship election due to misgivings that arose from factionalism.

But the big question on the lips of keen watchers of the events in the party is: Can APC delegates get it right at its upcoming presidential primaries? The answer to this question lies with the delegates whose duty it is to choose the best candidate for the party. This task goes beyond the mere choice of a candidate, it determines the fate of the party at the general election, and the fate of the nation thereafter.

The choice of who becomes the APC presidential standard-bearer should take the following into consideration:
Which of the presidential aspirants, when chosen as the candidate of the party, is capable of trumping the candidates of the opposition parties?
Which of the presidential aspirants, when selected as the party's candidate, will be acceptable to all across Nigeria?
Which of the presidential aspirants, when elected the President of Nigeria, has the capacity and zeal to lead Nigeria?
Which of the presidential hopefuls, when chosen as the candidate of the party, will not lead to an avoidable crisis in the party?
Which candidate of the party, when selected, will not jeopardize the chances of the party at the polls on account of corruption, age, health and intellectual deficit?
Who among the presidential aspirants is loved and trusted even by the opposition governors?
Which of the presidential aspirants in the APC carries with him the credentials that supersede those of the opposition candidates?
This is where the national delegates of the party are expected to take the grauntulate and prove their mettle. This is where the delegates' love for the party and the nation at large will be put to the best. To save the party from losing the election, the delegates are expected to, among other things:
Select the most credible aspirant who has no crisis of confidence or case of corruption hanging on his neck.
Choose a candidate for the party who is capable of winning the presidential election.
Get for the party, a person who is widely accepted across Nigeria.
Elect for the party, a candidate who possesses a track record of professional accomplishments.
And above all, give Nigeria a president that is capable of rewiring and reshaping the image of Nigeria, a candidate that has the fear of God in him, and a candidate who has shown the capacity to lead.
In all these, the best person that suits the picture is Prof Yemi Osinbajo. In him lies the ability to win the presidential election for APC. In him lies the answers to the myriad of problems bedevilling Nigeria. With him, APC is set for victory. But will the APC national delegates realize this and get it right? Osinbajo is the way to go for APC.
