All Praise be to Allah.

Is a pregnant woman obliged to fast?

A pregnant Muslim woman is obliged to fast , just like anyone else, unless she fears for herself or for her baby, in this case it is permissible for her not to fast.

Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, concerning the verse (interpretation of the meaning):

“And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a miskeen (poor person) (for every day).” [al-Baqarah 2:184]

“This was a concession granted to old men and old women who are able to fast but it is difficult, so they are allowed not to fast, and must feed one poor person for each day ; and for those who are sick or pregnant, if they fear for their children, they are allowed not to fast and must feed (one poor person for each day).” (Narrated by Abu Dawud, 2317; classed as sahih by al-Albani in Irwa al-Ghalil, 4/25, 18)

Cases of fasting during pregnancy

It should be noted that it may be permissible, obligatory or haram for a pregnant woman not to fast.

It is permissible for her not to fast if fasting is too difficult for her, but will not harm her.
It is obligatory for her (not to fast) if fasting will cause harm to her or her baby.
It is haraam for her (not to fast) if no hardship results from her fasting.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymin (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

In the case of a pregnant woman, one of two scenarios must apply:

She is strong and active, and fasting does not cause any hardship to her or affect her baby. This woman is obliged to fast, because she has no excuse for not fasting.
When a woman is not able to fast, because the pregnancy is too difficult for her, or because she is physically weak, or for some other reason. In this case she should break the fast, especially if it will cause harm to her baby – in which case she is obliged not to fast. (Fatawa al-Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymin, 1/487)
Shaykh Ibn Baz (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

“Pregnant and breastfeeding women come under the same ruling as those who are sick. If fasting is too difficult for them, it is prescribed for them to break the fast, and they have to make up missed fasts when they are able to do so, just as in the case of one who is sick.

Some of the scholars were of the view that it is sufficient for them to feed one poor person for each day missed, but this is a weak view. The correct view is that they have to make up the missed days, as is the case of those who were sick and for travelers, because Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days.” [al-Baqarah 2:184]

This is also indicated by the hadith of Anas ibn Malik al-Ka’bi, according to which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: ‘Allah has exempted the traveler from the obligation of fasting and has reduced the prayer by half for him, and has exempted pregnant and breastfeeding women from the obligation of fasting.” (Narrated by the five) (Tuhfat al-Ikhwan bi Ajwibah Muhimmah Tata’allaq bi Arkan al-Islam, p. 171)

And Allah knows best.

Yes with conditions.
According to Majilis Ugama Islam Singapura (Muis), the Islamic legal ruling on fasting during pregnancy is that a pregnant woman can fast if she is physically able to do so. If a pregnant woman is in good physical condition and believes she can fast without fear for her health or her baby’s health, she should do so. Otherwise, worry for one’s health or child’s health during pregnancy is a valid reason for a woman breaking her fast if she chooses to. There are Islamic authorities who will recommend that a woman break her fast if the woman has sought the advice of a doctor who advises her not to fast because it might threaten her health or the health of the foetus.

Women who are pregnant and do not fast out of worry for their health and safety can compensate by fasting on other days (qadha’) to make up for the days they have missed. Women who are pregnant and do not fast for fear of their child’s health will be required to do qadha’ and pay fidyah. Fidyah involves meeting the needs of the poor by giving them food. Fidyah can be made as cash donations or donations of staple foodstuffs like rice.

Basheer22:

Fast for 30 minutes.
If a pregnant woman or a suckling mother can observe the fast but with difficulty, or they fear for themselves or their babies, they do not have to make up for the missed days. They should, instead, feed a poor person for every day that they didn’t fast, according to the hadith of the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم: “Allah relieved the traveler from half of the prayer and fasting, and relieved the pregnant woman and the suckling woman from fasting”(1).

Making up missed days is an obligation on the traveler, according to Allah’s Word: ﴾And whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fast) must be made up] from other days﴿ [Al-Baqarah (The Cow): 185].

Feeding poor persons is an obligation on old men and old women, on the pregnant and suckling women, according to Allah’s Word: ﴾And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskîn (poor person) (for every day)﴿ [Al-Baqarah (The Cow): 184].

The ruling which states that it is possible for a pregnant or a suckling woman to not observe the fast and they have to feed poor persons and there is no making up for the missed days, is the correct opinion. It is the opinion of Ibn `Abbâs and Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهم and others. It is reported that Ibn `Abbâs رضي الله عنهما said: “If the pregnant woman fears for herself and the suckling woman fears for her baby in Ramadan let them not observe the fasting. They should, instead, feed a poor person for every day. They do not have to make up for the missed days”(2). It is also reported that: “He saw a slave girl (with whom he had a child) who was pregnant or suckling and told her: you are someone who can not observe the fasting. You should, instead, feed a poor person for every day and you does not have to make up for the missed days”(3).

In addition, Ad-Dâraqutni reported that Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهما: “Was asked by his wife, when she was pregnant, [if it is possible to not fast]. He answered: do not fast and feed a poor person for every day and do not make up for the missed days”(4).

As the saying of Ibn `Abbâs and Ibn `Umar رضي الله عنهم was known among the Companions and there were no Companion who opposed them. So, it is a reliable proof and Ijmâ` (a consensus for the majority of the scholars). This is known, among the men of Ussûl Al-Fiqh (the fundamentals of jurisprudence), by “the silent consensus”(5) and that the interpretation [of the verse] by Ibn `Abbâs رضي الله عنهما is related to the reason why the verse is revealed. And it is stated in the science of hadith that the interpretation [of a verse] which is related to the reason why a verse is revealed has the ruling of Raf`(6) (as if it is said by the Prophet صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم). So, a saying like this is more correct than the other sayings which are based on the opinion and analogy.

Nope, pregnant woman can’t fast cos she needs strength to carry the pregnancy and breastfeeding woman can’t fast cos she also needs energy to breastfeed the baby

Even in church fasting, they always emphasize on the fact that pregnant women and nursing mothers are not to join. So the answer should be an emphatic NO. So that it doesn't seem like the ones that are fasting are doing the right thing, and the ones that are not are lazy or dodging.

NB

I'm a Christian and I don't believe or understand whatever was written as the declaration.

And it's very stupid to make people swear before they comment.
