It's a good development! It will be a case of Tom (governors) and Jerry (LG Chairmen). They governors can just dip their filthy hands on LG accounts and LG Chairmen will know they have beady eyes watching over them

Why would you prevent their autonomy?

Very good!
These governors are the definition of corruption and hypocrisy.
You want to control everything but you don't want buhari to chose his successor. Just as one Iragbiji politician who will chop a very brutal breakfast next week grin
The breakfast will be served in big bowl

They will still find a way to collect the money from local government chairmen. Because most of them were singlehandedly picked by the governor.
With time that will change since in due time LGA chairmen will soon discover that they have the joker card.

In as much as the civil servants are paid their full salary, I have no problem with the joint account. What if the local government chairmen might be more than corrupt.

There is check and balancing bro.... Democracy will take its cause

It's long overdue.
It is unfortunate that Local government elections are not conducted in some States in Nigeria, rather the sitting Governors use this democratically-designated post to settle their supporters.

These governors are selfish and greedy...they want to be in control of local government money and loot some of the money... that is why there is no much development in the rural areas, villages, communities because of lack of local government autonomy

Too much power for governors.

If money goes directly to the Local Government...government moves closer to the grassroots and citizens can feel the impact of government more.
... and the bad thing about it is the local government chairmen are not complaining and protesting and agitating for local government autonomy from the state governors

This is why I want the FG to be in charge of allocation and not let states answer their papa name. What if the State Governors might be more corrupt?

Then such LG chairman has the wrath of the governor, efcc and federal government to contend with
Gbam! You said the word outta my mouth.

If the fear is that the Local Chairman might be corrupt, then let the state have their own variant of EFCC.

They may be lamenting privately but dare not complain publicly to the governor who put them in that position.

Local government councils not receiving their federal allocations, thus, not functioning, is reason why only state capital cities are the only functioning places in most of the states.

Thieving governors collect Local government allocations, reconstruct a few roads in the state capital, that's all for the governor's tenure.
People living in the state capital praise governor for repairing the capital city roads.
Rest of the funds go into private bank accounts.

Let the local government councils have their allocations to develop their area councils.
But how long will it take for implementation to start working

This matter is a two way traffic and was also part of the necessity that led to NGF (governor's forum)formation;the states has not been faithful in managing the joint accounts from inception and has also handicapped the smooth development of LG but on the side of LG autonomy as experinced in 1999 era where LG chairmen ganged up to frustrate the governor's of some States by setting aside certain percentage of their monthly allocation against election year. They even went as far as contributing millions of cash as ASUSU monthly for their private pocket at the detriment of the grass root .
Lastly most of them even see themselves as Lord over the governor ie with respect to the territory the control saying the governor has no control over their domain(Especially mayors ofLg where states capitals are sited)

I salute the courage of Mr President to come up with the NFIU.

The Major problem that has bedeviled Nigerian is TOTAL DISCONNECT OF THE CITIZEN FROM GOVERNMENT. The ideal of having a govt is to cater for the needs of her people while the people submit to the social contract. Now the contract has been broken and citizens have now picked up arms calling it different names(BH, UGM etc)

The best way to connect back to the people which is grassroot is to improve or better still salvage our Local Govt from the hands of the Governors.
