The name for the kind of inflation we have in Nigeria is unknown in the economic world. Ordinary "rumour" that the prices of petroleum products will "soon increase" even when they haven't increased is enough to raise the inflation level. When the actual increase comes, the inflation level will increase again. I used to call the first type of inflation that is due to rumour as "Wickedness inflation" because as at then, the prices of petroleum products are still the same but inflation still came. Another area where this wickedness inflation comes is when you increase prices by 100% and reduce the quantity by 50% for the same commodity!!!. Most Nigerians have evil hearts, govt's failure just serve as excuse to perpetuate their Wickedness.
Humans generally have evil hearts, why it seems different in other countries is because they have functioning policies to checkmate them but Tribe supremacy won't let us vote right.

Inflation in Nigeria is way beyond 21.5%; forget the padded figure churn-out by the agency. This figure will probably rise to 30 - 35% when the ripple effect of dollarized primary of various political parties begin to surface.

The last paragraph is so apt. Most detergent of around N100 and of weight circa 190g have reduced to 160g range yet the price of that same commodity is close to N200. They reduced the size from factory then middlemen wholesalers increased the price on their own accord.
Weak market regulation is part of the problem.

The bolded is the worse of them all, I keep imagining.... how companies increase the price of products by 100-200% and still reduce the size, plus quality of the product? This is criminal activity.

Dangote too just announced about over 30% increase in cost of production. Like a real billionaire that he is, he will quickly pass on the cost to consumers from cement to tomato to salt and sugar.

Diesel is also speculated to reach 1500 naira in the next couple of days, every company using diesel will also pass on the cost to consumers.

U have said it all brother

We have weak institutions. Until we have a system that works well, anything goes.

We sometimes have strong leaders who dictate what's to be done. We mostly don't have them. So anybody will do what pleases them and of course, the ripple effect happens.

What is happening is the Diesel price. Going to #1,500 per liter. How do manufacturers even survive in this country? Most things are reducing in weight yet prices are soaring.

Government failed woefully to protect producers and consumers as long as they keep receiving undeserved taxes undecided

Go to Europe and see mad inflation now.
The only difference is that their governments increase wages and salaries to match up
the difference is that their government in Europe is working tirelessly to devise a means of handling the inflation to maintain a balanced economy while the failure in aso rock always take refuge in Chinese trillion loans
