"And also please increase your voice when teaching or explaining or teaching your subject so that it will be interesting"
As a teacher, I understand that it is your method of teaching that brings about this. Improve on your method and be vocal when teaching.

This is a beautiful letter of apology from the student. She acknowledged what she did, but explained that it meant something different from your assumption. She also explained why she did what she did and proffered a solution, showing she is interested in getting a good education. She then apologised almost profusely.

From reviewing her letter and your stated views on her attitude and the letter, it seems to me you are actually the problem. You have brought your ego to the classroom. Children living in developed societies are encouraged to manifest their individuality and live out their personality and character traits. It is obvious this is an intelligent girl who questions things and points things out when she is not satisfied. But your ego and your patriarchal attitude to those under your care does not allow you to acknowledge her rights as an individual or encourage her to express herself, even if you disagree with her. It may actually be that you, like majority of your fellow Nigerians, lack the understanding of what it means to be a human- unique, with the right to self expression regardless of age.

You should probably leave teaching and go find a profession that allows for "order and obey" regime and patriarchal, don't tolerate nonsense, know it all attitude.
I applaud the young girl for insisting that her individuality and personality should not be taken from her, like has been done to most Nigerians who are essentially "walking zombies". She will face many more men of "ego" like you so far she remains in that country. I hope she does not give out in the future. She is a natural born leader.

I sent this particular female pupil to report herself to the principal that she was mocking me in class. She went there confidently and returned with a smug face, telling me principal asked her to tell me sorry.

I looked at her unconvinced that she went to the principal. Well I later realised she actually did and the principal didn't take it seriously.

I then asked her to write an apology letter. She went and came back with this piece below.....

APOLOGY LETTER

This is to write that I'm sorry for the disturbance I made in the class. And I'm sorry for the insult if you think that is the way it looks and I'm using this to make a statement too that I disturbed Mr Anthony. But I don't see it as an insult or an offence but I'm sorry for my wrong deeds. And I will not do it again.

During class I will listen attentively.

And also please increase your voice when teaching or explaining or teaching your subject so that it will be interesting.

Sorry for the wrong deed and mistake I have done.

Yours faithfully

Do this;
Depending on the size of your class, you may find/ request for extra time. Give them simple topics or let them pick educational topics (nothing hard or too serious) and research on their respective topics, then on a set day, each person will present their topics & teach the class for maybe 5-10 minutes, depending on the time allocated to you. If there is extra time you may permit Q&A after each presentation.

Reason for this kind of class presentation is;
It is engaging and exiting.
It allows the student to know the problem & solution by themselves. They will teach, ask questions and give answered, your duty is to just guide.
It exposes them to the rigours of preparing & presenting a topic before an audience. Some will get mocked & laughed at, others may be cheered, but lessons will be learnt. Next time someone stands before them, they will know what it takes & hopefully appreciate the efforts made by teachers.

How pinkin go know book if she can't hear the teacher? She never said he was not entertaining or amusing.... she said he never made his subject interesting. I'm sure she will say the same to her Pastor or Alfa if he is not speaking loud enough for her to hear. How can she learn if his words be dribbling out of his mouth and cannot reach her ears? She certainly wouldn't if he can't speak up like a man. I guess most of you have a problem with her because she is young... is a female... and should not speak up... should suffer and smile and go with the flow. We are dealing with a generation that is not afraid to speak up. You are from the generation where the teacher is always right. Change is coming.

I still maintain my stand, during my school days ,i came across soft spoken , experience teachers, in government owned secondary schools for that matter where you have 40 -50 student in attendance.
What do we do we make the class as silence as possible , patience and attentive.
People having difficulty's in hearing moves to the front seat.
As a teacher their some factors beyond your power and control, the same thing apply to a student, you dont wait untill they is perfect condition to learn. You adept .

Lack of desks and chairs: we stood

Lack of teaching time: we requested for text books from our parents to add up and you dare not make use of it while the teacher is teaching , because some students uses that opportunity to be rude to their teacher(open text book learning)

The way some student believes now aday ,na God they save teachers, they dictate to the principal, teachers and even there parent in the name beening awaken , from what beside ?
The best you can do as a student is to learn as much as possible from your teacher good and moral lesson being taught , because you might not see one day in your school.

He/she is there for the students not the other way round. There should alway make good opportunities to learn.

And the good thing about these setting is that we became independent of the school,

Some of us formed reading group within our peers.
Some Went for extra moral lessons.
Which made the classroom became interesting.

I still thank God for the blessings of going to a public owned school, and the right peer group and classroom mate i had than, because when i got admitted to University there was no difference with the setting which i came across.
I was not Shocked at all , the hallway alway over crowded. I could self study on my own.
lol blessed memories.

You said principal and pupil, this is giving me confusion. But I think you meant to say student because to my best of knowledge a pupil can't write like that.

I've my fair share of insults from students. And I can say this: it pains alot.

Seeing you're older than the little brats and considering the insulting behaviour can escalate your anger quickly.

Best way to deal with these animals is to be dreadfully FEARED.

Always have your cain with you. And whip any of those animals till they pass out... without showing mercy.

This is over the line bro, let punishments commensurate with wrongdoings. Don't just punish harshly everytime or be eager to dish out punishment at all times, it defeats the purpose of what you're trying to achieve. If you want to be an effective tutor, friendliness and respect should be your watchword. Trust me, you can achieve much more when you're friendly and deeply respected by those under your tutelage than you'll achieve when students fear you cos of you dishing out punishments anyhow. Of course, you must be firm at all times, there are times to dish out punishment but don't make that your watchword.
