The pupils in the video were brought by adults for demonstration at the OAU Ife gate. Most of them don't evey know the full meaning of ASU.However their parents are OAU staff and the school is possibly run by a University member of staff. The tutored demonstrators and the organisers must have good reasons for the exercise. However, will it not be better for us, adults, to continue with the struggle ourselves? What if this peaceful protest becomes violent or some gangsters hijack it and carry out their nefarious activities in the process? What if our defenceless kids are lured away in the process? Are we not exposing our kids to danger by ourselves? Are we not trying to solve a problem by creating another one? In my humble opinions,
In view of the prevalent insecurity in the country, our innocent kids should be left out of this struggle.I come in peace.

However, will it not be better for us, adults, to continue with the struggle ourselves?

No, because the strike affects these kids too. Many of them are children of OAU staff who haven’t received salary in months. They can barely feed or pay fees. When kids, especially these ones in a university environment, engage in activities like this, it increases their awareness of the problems in our education system. They know that life is not all “cupcakes and rainbows”

What if this peaceful protest becomes violent or some gangsters hijack it and carry out their nefarious activities in the process?

This is very unlikely as the school received approval (and extra security) from OAU before starting the protest at the gate. In addition, all staff of the school was present, and many parents.

What if our defenceless kids are lured away in the process?

Like I said, the adult supervision was top notch. This was well within contemplation. The kids were not wandering about, they protest for less than 3hours under very strict supervision.

Are we not exposing our kids to danger by ourselves?
No, we are raising socially conscious kids, who can identify a problem and speak up. This protest, cultural awareness, space research and education, HIV/virology annual program are some of the few ways this school raises exceptional kids. They recently interview Folake Solanke SAN, primary 1 - 4, how many kids do you know have this much exposure?

Are we not trying to solve a problem by creating another one?

No, we are not.

whitebeard:
what concern primary school students with ASUU ?

A lot. Especially primary schools in university environments where the parents are staff or operate businesses dependent on students.

Even so young, they know the quality of education has fallen, why?, they live in an academic environment. They can see that with the way things are going, Nigeria can produce the next Wole Soyinka or Achebe locally. They can see that the society is contrary to their teachings of a great nation.

This is a school that invites professionals to inspire children, what inspiration can a professor who has been on strike for over 5months give now?

It concerns them, because before the strike they benefited from a citadel of learning, home to researchers, local and international students from all over west Africa.
Most of them will finish and go to OAU secondary school, where the tor of falling standard is already creeping in. Abi when last did you see a university owned secondary school on COWBELL, mathematics for life or Olympiad?.
