when the students are ready they'll fight for themselves.. What are the various SUGs and NANs doing about the strike... If u claim ASUU is fighting for their own pocket then d students 2 should fight for their own interest by coming out massively to protest... Nothing in d life comes easy... ALUTA CONTINUA

It's like you are mad?

The students have staged enough protest.

ASUU keep using the protest as leverage to pursue their selfish interests.

The annoying part is that they wouldn't join us to protest

Oga, leave story. Let FG pay ASUU and give them UTAS.
Agreement is agreement.

They monies stolen by govt officials and corruption is small compared to what ASUU is asking for.

Instead of you to tell FG to pay ASUU you come up with this BS!

If our politicians blood children were in Nigerian Universities ASUU would have been paid and not ignored. Our government does not care about its ppl. Look around you at all that is happening.

I support ASUU. Agreemet is agreement!!

Agreement of since how many years Oga?

It's like you are mad!

Ogun dey Kee you?

ASUU should make a reasonable proposal and make a new agreement.

ASUU is never getting UTAS whether una like it or not.

forget about the foreign lecturers, you can't afford them, you will need to pay them what they get in their respective countries in order to get them to come here to teach, that was quite possible in the 60s to early 80s when our currency was very strong. but if you think you will pay a prof from Harvard University what you pay a Nigerian prof then forget it.

Is the naira the same as the present day

If ASUU wants FG to be able to import lecturers from overseas. Then you folks should come up with a idea on how to balance the economy since you people are so wise!

Is the price of shoe the same as it was in the 70's? The country economy has fallen, and that's why we can no longer afford to bring in foreign lecturers

No university lecturer ever earning such paltry sum of 120k as salary, they didn't kill anybody's child, if you know nothing about their salaries you keep it shut. Secondary school teachers are earning well over 400k, dont confuse masses with your limited understanding.

You are the Ode here! I am a university lecturer and that is my pay. Assistant lecturer earning 125k after PhD it goes to 150k. That’s me spending about 10years already in the system.

Oga the money does not belong to ASUU alone!!!

ASUU are complaining of salary deductions. But other civil servants are also facing the same issues?

Are they protesting?

Why should ASUU collect all the recovered money from the looting?

What will other sector say about that?

ASUU is not pretending to be fighting for their students, they fight for themselves.

If you feel that their pay is commensurate with what their counterparts are earning outside Nigeria say it.

There are only two labour unions in Nigeria who have the liver to stand up to the impunity of the FG and these are NMA and ASUU.

Tell your FG to honour the signed agreement QED

Which stupid signed agreement.

Go and bring back Good luck Jonathan to sign the agreement. After all it was signed in his tenure.

Thank you for this. This is also what I share to people but just that many are gullible in the country. Instead NLC should demand to be part of the negotiating committee and request for ASUU demand and that of FG then call on other labour sector and see what is realistic to agree with. They engage in foolish protest misplace priority set of people

This will only lead to ASUU extending the strike. Because they'll feel there's hope for the government to answer their cry for UTAS

For those of you typing rubbish on why the strike should be allowed to continue, it is very typical of you Nigerians not to feel the pain of fellow Nigerians when you think you are not directly affected. From Covid19 lockdown to this strike, people's children and wards have spent close to 2years out of school and you're not bothered about the psychological and economic consequences of that on these youngsters? How wicked can y'all be

Lmfao your childish brain cannot even do the simple math of how much you want to pay foreign lecturers and even part timers.

Is it the 120-400k you want to pay a foreigner to come and teach in a country riddled with bad governance and insecurity?

Mehn, did you even go to school?

Foreigners are attracted to go seek job opportunities in a country with a stable economy, electricity.

Why will a foreigner want to come and suffer here?

Oga since you went to school and you are so smart. Give us a solution to good Electricity, how to balance the economy?

Only in Nigeria do you see students VERY content with Preserving shoddy education, all in the name of graduation at all costs. It doesn’t matter if your university doesn’t have good infrastructure or decent halls. It doesn’t matter if your labs are terrible. It doesn’t matter if your school has to make do with Terrible lecturers because welfare sucks.

Instead of calling the FG to order, you’re busy attacking lecturers. No wonder politicians see people like the OP as their ‘boys’ to play with.

Is this the right time for this stupid strike?

Students missed an academic session due to the pandemic/strike.

A government is leaving office asap, and he does not need to impress anyone

If you guys are truly sensible. You will honourably allow us resume, and continue the struggle another time.

We are not saying ASUU should not fight for what they want. But it does not have to be with strike!

To be honest with you, I was cringing while typing that comment. I’m a beneficiary of the highly subsidized university education and I really wish the system can be sustained for the benefit of children of poor parents.

Sadly, I don’t see an end to ASUU strike in the nearest future irrespective of who is in power under the current university structure. Apart from the UTAS/IPPIS issue that is recent, most of the demands of ASUU have to do with the none implementation of the agreement FG signed with the union since 2009. If the agreement can be implemented, Yar’adua and Jonathan would have implemented it long before Buhari became president. The problem is beyond party.

So then, what’s the lasting solution to the unending strikes? We either disrupt the current subsidized university education system or learn to live with the strikes. I really can’t see an alternative. Again, insufficient we can find a way to sustain the current structure in the overall interest of children of the poor masses.

It shall not be well with UTAS

IT SHALL NOT BE WELL WITH ASUU!!!

I see so many Nigerians don't know the value of good education. Thats why many people just like this OP can't reason well and always licking the ass of the same bad govt that can't even get one single thing right.

To me, ASSU is fighting for the right thing, how do you expect a labourer to keep labouring without reward?
What would you say about Nigeria medical doctor, NUPENG, Bread manufacturer and etc always going on strike ? Will you say it's also for selfies interest.
If govt was doing what's right, they won't be need for all this strike.

Everybody, is going on strike, Doctors, nurses, Assu, Nupeng, civil service etc. Ask your self why ?

Or politicians ain't interested in governing again, all they are doing is playing politics with our collective resources and fools like you will still come here to lick their ass.

Imagine the amount of politicians are earning every day. If those money were probably used for the good of our nation do you think everybody will be going on strike ?
It's only a matter of time, this country will still short right in your eyes.

Government public schools in Abuja are all closed down all because your bleeped up politicians can't provide basic security for her citizens.

Secondary and primary school students can't even go to school in the northern part of the country.

With all this happening, you still want to asslick.

Maybe you are privilege to attend a private uni and that's why you can type nonsense stuffs like this in form of question.

Congratulations...

Leave them to argue blindly. They think lecturers are earning millions every month and want more money.

For every 10 cars you see lecturers drive, 8 are from loans and cooperatives. They can't save to buy a car, but here we are arguing that they shouldn't worry about salary but just dey teach empty headed students who spend more time having sex and smoking weed than reading.

Shebi cutoff Is now 140? Lmfao the best of the olodos are coming to the university now lmao

75% of civil servants live on loans.

We have friends, families who are civil servants and are living on loan.

Why are you people acting like you have two heads because you teach?

Should I remind you that most lecturers may choose to be absent from class for as long as they want and nothing will happen

Be sincere for all those writeup telling the reasons for the the strike action. The some of the reasons:
1. Revitalisation fund
2. IPPS not captures peculiarities
3. Earn allowances
4. Review their salaries
5. Failed to go by the signed agreement since 2002.
6. Dismissal of some lecturers
6. and many other
Google to find more about it.

Lol, they enjoy pensions.. I wonder why youd think a university that pays tax to the govt cannot or will not make provisions for pensions hehehehe

Lastly, they are well recognized by govt. They attend seminars, workshops, conferences, and other things enjoyed by lecturers in the public space. There is literally nothing that separates them other than salary and terms of service. Look it up.
