Area of interest.

“The whole idea of incentives is to grow the economy. When you are growing the economy, you are not only looking at revenue, you are looking at employment and multiplier effects. In the medium to long term, you will get this revenue by the time you are able to grow these investments.

If we have significant impact of all these are the main concern.

Any significant impact so far?

Okay, let us raise the tax income in Nigeria.

And people like you would call government oppressive then

Recall when government tried to get MTN to pay up taxes, you guys were opposed? You guys were accusing government of trying to drive out MTN.

Anytime government tries to raise tax income, you will complain of raised prices and of people coming to chop your money or that we are too poor to pay tax.

Even South Africa that you are praising, most SA don't pay taxes. Less than 7 million pay tax for the rest of the population. In Nigeria , less than 30% of the taxable population pays taxes. Most people do not.

And in both countries a huge chunk of the tax is collected from, you guessed it, big coprorations

Who were the "you guys" that you referring to? How many nigerians opposed mtn paying it's taxes? Doesn't it make huge profits? Can you compare income taxes taken from salaries that have been stagnant for several years to company profits that are continuously growing in leaps and bounds?

Why won't people complain of raised income taxes? Are you enjoying the inflation? Even with these tace waivers, are companies reciprocating by reducing the prices of their products?

If you say nigerians and south Africans barely pay taxes but SA rakes in nearly ten times as much as nigeria in taxes from according to you big corporations, how come you think nigeria will catch up by taxing over taxed income taxes of impoverished nigerians?

I gave you the proof, but you refused to consider it.

Good am to you.

And you refused to answer this question.

Is it that we aren't taxed enough or the inability to properly account for these taxes?

Cos the 45 are just for cover up. It will be Dangote that will get the waiver at the end. These northerners are smarter than all ur useless profs combined

you say that that out of prejudice not facts.

it not the first time Nigerian companies get tax waivers... companies enjoyed the same during Obasanjo time and GEJ..it was during this period Dangote's wealth rose rapidly..why didn't you shout northern politicians then..

. the media will only highlight the northern ones because they know most people who pay attention to news are southerners. This drives clicks and eventually unnecessary hatred.

see how the headlines says Dangote, and others..
nonsense

Dangote is no business man he is a politician. A man that has failed with virtually all ventures he put his hands into from cement, to fruit juice, to noodles to water

failed in all business? grin grin

failed in cement and sugar? you must be a joker

no business man is 100% perfect.. along the line some part of business may go down or not as much as you want it too..

his noodles wasn't entirely a failure.. he sold it to the makers of indomie
same way he sold his flour company as well.

non of this steps has reduced his wealth.

his businesses has transformed an entire community..example is Obajana in kogi state and ibeju lekki in Lagos

if we had such kind of business men/ politicians in Nigeria..our problems would have been lesser than this

Dangote will be out of business if not for his brothers in politics. He lacks creativity and innovation that's why he needs waiver for everything.

Common sense in what way? How has the tax waiver reflected in the prices of their products? How much of their profits would the waived taxes would have erased?

this is the same practice in every developing nation..

it not necessarily aimed at reducing the price of their products...it is about the companies making more in order to expand and keep up with the cost of doing business here..
for example.

Diesel prices are over 400% compared to 2018.. many Nigerian companies run on diesel to produce..but non of them increased the price of their goods by 400% between 2018 and 2022... did the cost of making telephone calls double since 2018 even when what powers all the facilites is diesel.. the loss margin can be offset with tax waivers

expansion is also another part.

Virtually all of the companies given the waiver are on expansion project which will increase their capacity to produce more and employ more..

Dangote is working on a refinery and sugar plant..honeywell is expanding to over raw sugar production and refining

I recommend a book for you.
An old book for that matter: A tale of two cities by Charles Dickens.

Here, the poor of France were taxed beyond existence, for the continuation of splendour and enjoyment of the ruling classes.

That is taxation (consumption)
Not production which is what rich do in free market
Ruling classes are unproductive and unsustainable which is what you are advocating for (poor consumption without producing anything)

When told that the masses had no bread to ear, the queen said , with disdain (?) and complete ignorance, " ...but why can't they eat cake?!".

Not until one poor man's son was crushed under the chariots of a wealthy politician, and the same politician flung some miserable coins to the man, to bury his son, while wondering if his horses were hurt. The dead boy's father, in revenge, crept overnight into the politicians castle, plunging a dagger into his heart, while he was sleeping comfortably at night; igniting what was called the French Revolution.
That is murder manslaughter
Different thing
He deserves to be stabbed

That revolution , the ruling King and all his family members, lost their life, and France became a republic , ( at least facially).

True
But the poverty continued and led to capitalism yet you want to go back to feudalism why?

Nigeria is on same path.

Maybe
But doubt it

But the path would be one of destruction, that would alter the course of this nation.
we shall see. But nothing to do with productivity
