The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill seeking to prevent the arbitrary removal of judges. The bill, sponsored by Bob Solomon from Rivers State, seeks to amend the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal.

According to the lead debate by Solomon, a judicial officer cannot be prosecuted by the CCB or appear before the CCT unless he has been removed from office.

He noted that the constitution did not contemplate the trial of a judicial officer before removal from office. Solomon said if the amendment is successful, a president will require approval of the National Assembly before the removal of a CJN.

The bill was taken and referred to the Committee on Judiciary. It would be recalled that the former Chief Justice of the Federation, Walter Onnoghen, following allegations of non-disclosure of assets by the code of conduct bureau was suspended by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019 and was later forced to resign.

Buhari Removed Onoghen because he was afraid his massive rigging of the 2019 election will be used against him, he brought in Tanko Idris who messed up the judiciary, giving victory to a Hope Uzodinma who came 4th in the govership election in Imo and Tinubu said he wants to continue from where he stopped

Instead of amending CCB to prevent the head to stay there for life, and steps to remove him/her for corruption or being used to remove political office holders. And a bill to ensure that asset declaration can be made public with few redactions to exact house numbers but keeping street and location.

That bill will be at risk if we have a Senate president like Lawan. Because anything the President wants will be approved by the senate president.


Just imagine a government where the President removes the CJN subject to final approval from the senate led by Amed Lawan. Yes, your guess is as good as mine. Rubber stamp
