Your success anywhere in the world is dependent on your grit and growth mindset mentality. I put it to you that earning 700k in the Nigerian space (with insecurity, poor health care and shi..tty infrastructure) and going all out to hustle to the top in the UK . The UK would still be a better choice except you don’t know your onion

You make some good points, however I'm curious what you mean by hustle to the top in the UK. Yes the UK has great jobs and opportunities, however it is a highly regimented society. You cannot hustle in the UK like you would in Naij because every *legal* income - employed or self employed - is subject to for tax (even if you are a landlord for example, your rental income is subject to tax) . The more you earn or make, the more you are taxed because you automatically get moved into a higher tax band.
You have to make sure you closely follow the rules and regulations in your field. Even more so if you are an immigrant. On an immigrant work visa you are restricted in the area of second jobs, so you cant just work all the hours you may want to.
I'm just setting out realistic expectations. There is a price to pay for a society that "works" and this price makes it much harder to "blow" in the same way as one would in a society like Nigeria.

No use yourself generalise. Because konji dey worry you for UK doesn't mean other negro migrants are not scoring goals on white pussies. I sojourned in UK and Norway some 20years ago before joining politics after returning to Nigeria, and I was even greater than Maradona in the area of scoring goals inside white pussies. This is evidenced in the 5 children I have from 4 different white women in UK and Norway. Nwaneni, up your game, change your dress sense, build your muscles and you will find white girls drooling over u. At worst, you will still find those indian hemp addicted Jamaican girls wey done forget their ancestry for London, wey go dey give U toto
I hardly ever use myself as example since I'm not your average black man(means disparities) ,so clearly things can be rigged in my favour, doesn't make them the standard.
Dress sense for winter? You don’t know what you're talking about. grin
Also,I'm not a migrant but a businessman on business,as I've since returned to Nigeria.
And no,Konji no ever worry me.You can't stay in a 5 star hotel in the city centre and ooze class in a place with a lot of morally bankrupt/wayward girls like UK and complain of konji, never!
I had my first standing missionary there with a Caucasian a while back.

Freedom - in Nigeria you will suffer greatly if you're atheist, gay or lesbian or you say the wrong thing about a powerful politician or even your richer neighbor who can hire POLICE to detain and beat you up. Yes, I saw that happen in Nigeria. Such is *less likely* to happen in the Anglo-West.

Taxes - just yesterday at this swimming place where my daughter is taking lessons - https://www.aqua-tots.com/raleigh/?utm_source=Profiles&utm_medium=GoogleMaps&utm_campaign=AquaTots - someone had a heart attack. Guess what? Fire trucks and ambulance arrived in 8 minutes (I timed it because it happened right when our lessons finished). You can call the school and politely ask what happened to their instructor yesterday that had a health emergency, are they OK? What would have happened in Nigeria? That's what taxes are for, it's a REAL THING, I know people in Nigeria who DIED from exactly such an emergency.

Bills - you get what you pay for, choose what you want. Simple as that. For example, I don't have cable TV anymore. I can buy a solar system OR Generac generator tomorrow and cut off my electric utility supplier. I can dig a well in my home and supply my own water, YES IT'S ACTUALLY VERY COMMON TO DO THAT in the USA, especially in smaller towns. The fact is that maintaining such stand alone systems is difficult. For example you have to treat and purify the water to prevent disease, it's not easy. So I have CHOSEN to stay on the public system. And yes, my water bill was $20 per month 10 years ago and now it's $150, but that's my CHOICE.

Nigerian Food - I eat just about any Nigerian food I want and for your info, we get BETTER QUALITY Nigerian food here than you will ever find in Nigeria. Why? The producers want FOREX so they make sure to send THE BEST to markets in US/UK. My mother comments on this all the time. If you want to eat the best quality Nigerian food, the US/UK is where you get it.

2nd Class Citizen - I'm an Igbo man. I think have more rights in the USA than Nigeria. Another example, I can own land in the USA but not in Nigeria. Yes, no individual owns land in Nigeria, your Governor can take it at any time, that's the law. There's more prejudice, discrimination and bigotry in Nigeria than in the UK or USA.

Feeling Out of Place - When I moved back to Nigeria in 2011, that was when I felt out of place because my life style was so outstanding compared to most people around me. Once I left the confines of my home, all I saw was poverty everywhere. It made me uncomfortable. I noticed pure HATRED in the eyes of people because of my living standards. Forget feeling out of place, I felt under threat.

Your counter-factual commentary is very interesting for insight into the mind of the Nigerian. Much as I sympathize with the Nigerian people, I've said it many times they're their own worst enemies. Take what's going on RIGHT NOW, how will anyone in their right minds campaign for APC? Crazy, but it's Nigerians who believed Buhari when he said "there's nothing like fuel subsidy" LOL. Sadly, the same attitude is creeping into the USA and yes, things are changing as a result. As in, APC = Democratic Party, check the policies. grin

So what are you trying to accomplish by putting out all these comments? You talk about living a paradisal life in Nigeria when rich elderly Nigerians are now moving here to the USA to retire I can't mention names, but I know a whole Nigerian Army Colonel who retired here, his daughter told me a few years ago he couldn't collect his Nigerian pension while he was living in Nigeria, he got tired of the whole thing and left. I know a Central Bank Governor whose child schooled with me, that's a Big Man for sure, he lives in the USA now. I know a businessman who owns a few high value buildings in Lagos, he lives here now, he even brought his adult kids and their spouses and grandchildren, I kid you not! In fact if I start reeling out names you will be shocked. Let me tell you, if I could exhume my father's grave and bring his dead body here, I would...at least he'll be buried in a decent cemetry with manicured lawns, bright flowers and all.

I read a comment where someone else was saying that those over age 35 or whatever should think twice about migrating. Well, I can tell you from REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE that it's still a good thing and I learned it from my own mothers experience. My mother is well known in the Nigerian community here. I know at least 4 people over the age of 55 who came to USA and started life over and have now accomplished things they could NEVER DREAM OF DOING in Nigeria. Like the lady who came here at age 50 to visit her daughter and new born baby in Baltimore, she started taking nursing classes. Eventually she decided to stay in America, she brought her husband and now they bought their own home and she works as a nurse and only now is building a house in Nigeria....for what I don't know, but there it is.

It's one thing to disparage those of us abroad with an anonymous post, it's another to bring real life experience to the board as I'm doing. My wife has told me how they used to look down on Nigerians living abroad when she worked in Nigeria. And this is someone who traveled the world, surprisingly the myth persisted for her until she came to LIVE here.

Now let me shock you, I used to be a big proponent of moving back to Nigeria for all the reasons YOU HAVE GIVEN HERE, until I actually moved back to Nigeria in 2011. After I came back with my tail between my legs, I was the laughing stock of my social circle. And it's not just me, I know literally a dozen people that have moved back to Nigeria and it didn't work. Our experience is a VALIDATION of the STATISTICS....it's very difficult to live in Nigeria, the conditions are horrible even for the rich. One rich guy I know in PH is telling me his biggest problem is ELEMENTARY EDUCATION for his little kids, the cost in Nigeria is too high even for him and he's planning to send his wife and kids out here to take advantage of the TAX SUPPORTED quality education here. What was that thing you were saying about TAXES?

Theory is one thing, EXPERIENCE is another. You and your kind talk about taking VACATIONS in the UK/USA, but have you LIVED here? Nobody who has actually LIVED & WORKED here will say Nigeria is a better place for ANYONE except maybe 0.01% of the population. Please stop posting comments that are at best misleading. Nigerians are generally IGNORANT of even their own country and you're making it worse.

Well I've gone out of my way to try and be open. Can you tell us your real name and what you do for a living? Let's measure this strength. I've gotten 6 people out of Nigeria, in the process of doing 4 more, translate that to plane ticket cost alone and tell me who is weak and strong.

I lived in USA for over 15 years before taking my fate in my hands and moving back to Nigeria and creating a business and creating jobs. I was listening to people like you, I was once an enthusiastic fan of Nigeria believe it or not. Now I've LIVED THE REALITY as a rich Nigerian and I know what you're writing here is FALSE.

Only 0.4% of Nigerians earn ₦200K per month, 99.7% of all bank accounts contain less than ₦500K. This means basically ALL Nigerians are "weak" and my stand is they deserve a better life in a more decent society. These statistics also mean there's a VERY HIGH PROBABILITY that you yourself are not earning much in Nigeria. You're among the "weak" and like a typical Nigerian you want to keep everyone down at your level.

Wait till APC wins the next election, Nigeria will be like Somalia, Venezuela and Lebanon. Your CHALLENGE will be even bigger. Good Luck.

True. That's because many African minds have refused to rise above the status quo.

Take Singapore that was also colonized by Britain. I have never been there, but people who have been there/currently live there, speak of a high sense of self-worth & refinement within themselves amid the rapid advancement of their society.

Personally, I think the problem of Africa lies beyond it's leaders. I feel it's a fundamental human issue with the average African. If you internalize your local language with poor electricity, fuel scarcity, intense tribal bigotry & 'wicked nurses', by default, you will associate another language representing a 'better society' to be posh, refined & civilized...

Now this is deep thinking for sure, simple and deep all at once.

Thank you.

Western is designed to earn enough and still the system is taking all your earning omoh

Another fallacy. If what you write is true, how do Nigerians abroad manage to send anywhere from $10 to 25 billion back to Nigeria every year for the past 20 years?

Let me tell you something, the average Nigerian here in the USA would be much wealthier if not for their financial commitments to Nigeria. I'm thinking of starting a Youtube Channel on just that topic.

Imagine - I built a house in Nigeria BEFORE I bought a house here in the USA where I live. How's that for foolish investment? That's my personal experience. This is my real name. I live in Raleigh NC, I've lived here for over 30 years, I even moved back to Nigeria in 2011 and lived there so I know of what I write. I preach this thing around here all the time for our people - leave Nigeria alone and take care of yourself first.

I know what you're doing, trying to intimidate those of us abroad. It doesn't work anymore. Sorry!

The peer pressure currently is just too much, people mmentality is that traveling is the best option, my pat er stated giving me pressure to move out of the country too at the other end am not seeing that as an achievement I mean she expect me to leave a job I created by myself 6years ago in nigeria that is currently fetching me at least 2-3m monthly to japa, if I do will loose all customers because the job is competitive, and for over 6year now I work from home, lose that kind of job and go to Uk as in what kind of job will fetch me 2-3m monthly savings in the Uk, the skills I have is only plumbing work skills i most do that as a side job in nigeria here I only attend to big job, japa is not for everyone you people should stop looking at it as a big achievement… and stop calculating you earning In naija just to say that you better off over there… peace ☮️

What is your real name? What city do you live in? I'm posting my real name, I'm a pharmacist and I live in Raleigh NC, USA. If indeed you're a plumber please bring your skills here to the USA if you can get the visa, come and earn real money. Plumbers charge $60 just to EVALUATE & DIAGNOSE a problem, no joke. I will be glad to patronize you since I own some apartments and finding maintenance labor can be difficult sometimes. If you actually have the skills to install whole systems you will be a millionaire here within 10 years, guaranteed.

President Buhari and his family have been living in UK & Spain since 1980s. That's a REAL, verified person, a high earning and patriotic Nigerian family. If he has CHOSEN to domicile ALL his children abroad, what you should be doing is taking a deep look into his possible reasoning and asking WHY. Who should I emulate, anonymous YOU or the two-time President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria?

I attended an FGC back in the 1980's. The MAJORITY of my classmates were from the very tip top of upper class Nigeria. Children of Directors & Perm Secs, CBN Governors, Supreme Court Justices, Military Commanders, Governors and so on. These are VERIFIABLE real human beings. The vast majority of them are right here with me in the US/UK. I worked in or attended the same Universities right here in the USA with a couple of President OBJs kids. Do you know Nigeria better than them? Again, who are you?

Abeg let us rest. I moved to that your Nigeria in 2011 and lived there and ran a business. Simply put, Nigeria is uninvestible for very good macroeconomic reasons, that's before talking infrastructure, legal impediments, security, culture and on and on. I've been there and I know what I experienced. Nigeria is a Zoo. I hope and pray that it will improve but all objective signs indicate worse to come.

Happy Sunday to you all the same!

Good afternoon guys.. I need your advice on something....
I've been thinking of using my house as a collateral for loan of 5m to fund my travel to UK and when I get there I'll pay back the money with my work there....
Do you think it's worth it? Just need your advice on this
